Hey, biggrin.gif
As it's Mozarts 250th birthday this year, I just wondered what are you favourite mozart pieces for piano. I love the 1st movement of the sonata K330 - its on the grade 8 syllabus & I haven't played much else!!!
I know he wrote so much - just wondering?? huh.gif

Thanks

I love most of what Mozart wrote, but my absolute favourites are

Clarinet Concerto wub.gif, and Quintet
Symphony 39 and 41
Flute concerti
Requiem
Figaro, esp. Overture and end of Act 2
Wind serenades
String Quartet in A major (dedicated to Haydn)
and his recently discovered arrangement of Handel's Judas Maccabeus

His music is generally, stunningly brilliant. biggrin.gif

  • The A Minor Piano Sonata K310; especially the section where the melody goes into the bass. The chord progression is wonderful smile.gif.
  • Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor
  • Piano Concerto No. 1 in D, KV107 - not the usual piano concerto 1. It was written based on a J.C. Bach Sonata; Op. 5 No. 2. Have a listen to a clip at Amazon.
  • Symphony 40 - OK, it's popular, but there's a lot more to it than meets the eye wink.gif.

SuzyMac
Oh, so many!

Piano concerti 20 and 21
Piano sonatas k284 and k331
Clarinet Quintet
Eine Kleine (if only because the man on ClassicFM somehow knew I conduct this in traffic jams! ) ph34r.gif
Figaro...

Quite a lot of people prefer Mozart's orchestral works (for which I don't blame them), but the question was concerned with his works for piano. In addition to the late concertos, which are marvellous, there are several chamber works for piano that are highly regarded:

K 452 Quintet in Eb for Piano and Winds

K 478 Piano Quartet in G minor

K 493 Piano Quartet in Eb

K 498 Trio in Eb for Piano, Clarinet, Viola “Kegelstatt”

K 452 is as difficult as some of the concertos (post G8 IMO), but the others are somewhat easier.

There are also several conventional piano trios (p, vn, vc).

Most of my favorite Mozart works are mentioned already, but I'd like to add
the funeral motet "Ave Verum Corpus".

Yes Piano Concerto no 21 is good. I also like(and am learning right now) Piano Concerto no. 20.
