I've had such a lovely week, music wise. Bear in mind here that I'm the original Lisa Simpson poster girl for external validation (grade me, grade me!). My cello teacher tonight told me that he was amazed with my progress, and that my intonation is vastly improved, that my bowing is fine, vibrato is coming along, and that generally, I'm his superdooper star pupil (ok, that wasn't his phrase, but it was in his voice!)
And earlier, my singing teacher described my upper notes as 'glossy and full, and really beautiful sounds to hear'.
I'm feeling so much better about my music than I did this time last year!

That's great, meerkat - we can all do with a few lessons like that!

I know waht you mean. I once did an ABRSM peformance assesment and played Satie's Gnossiennes. The examiner / assessor wrote that I had (and I quote) "...beautifully captured the perfumed orientalism of Satie's music...."
It is one of the nicest things that anyone has ever said to me.

StuMac, I have heard you tell that story before... I hope the examiner knows that he/she made an impression with that comment *grin*
I know just what you mean... there are some compliments so lovely that one gets them out time and again to admire them

Yes I shall treasure that phrase 'til my dying day!!! It was his choice of words that really got me, "perfumed orientalism" says something that "orientalism" doesn't!!

I think the best compliment I had in a lesson was the day my teacher forgot to turn over the page for me because he 'was too busy listening'.
That won't happen again, my current teacher makes me turn over for myself... The 2nd lesson I had with her she just told me before I started .. 'and I'm not turning over for you'.

sbhoa: that's a great compliment! how lovely!
StuMac: yes, I agree... makes it sound like you really transported him to some oriental... I don't know, bazaar or harem or something!

hmmm that didn't quite come out right... but yes... I agree! it does say something special about your playing!
