Now, I don't know about you, but I personally prefer seeing who I speak to via internet i.e. a picture and a name (real one obviously) as well. Aliases (sp?) and no face to it just seems...odd...

As you can tell I'm not ashamed of revealing my identity smile.gif
kayladavies
I've just updated my profile with a picture of me.
sarah-flute
I like to put faces/names to people, though it doesn't bother me too much when others don't want to. I don't have a problem being "me" on the 'net - hence I used my real name as half my username, and although I've had random profile pics in the past (dancing elmo, anyone? biggrin.gif) my current one is me.

I'm not sure I could keep up never telling anyone my name and always being just a username: I'd slip up eventually.
nicki_flute
I would up a picture of me but
a) none of them look any good!
cool.gif I would still be worried about other people seeing me - can guests see profiles?

No, they can't! Go on Nicki smile.gif ! Mine is a picture of me as well! laugh.gif laugh.gif Well, not quite, but I will put one on my profile soon.
elmo
It's quite good to be able to see who people are- but it ruins your images of what people look like! I always imagined sarah to have blonde hair..... smile.gif

Actually, if anything, the converse happens - forums people I meet in real life are as likely to greet me with "Hi Katyjay" as with my own name laugh.gif It confused my poor hubby when people did this on the phone too - "There's no-one of that name.....er yes, she's here...."
barry-clari
Well half of my user name is real, half isn't.

Can you guess which part is real??????

As for a face, one of these days a forum concert will appear on a date when I'm not playing/teaching/doing something else elsewhere...... rolleyes.gif

It's great having photos on profiles, putting faces to names gives a whole new dimension to chatting. Who cares whether pictures look bad, everyone on here has a love of music in common and i doubt anyones very shallow! After reading this post I decided to make use of the picture thingy on the profiles which I didnt actually know existed!

chocolatedog
The real chocolate dog is nowhere near as shy as I am so she's quite happy for everyone to see her photo! (I've got hundreds more of her!!!!)
bohemian
Mine is really me smile.gif
Saxophonist
Im trying to take a half decent one of me to put on my profile (it might take a while)

laugh.gif I can see that being easier to "keep up", a name that could be a nickname. I think you're permanently now katyjay in my head even though I know your real name! I think I'd have trouble if I tried to just be a username that was totally made up...

I expect I'd still slip up sooner or later if I had a nick-name-ish username: eventually I'd sign something "Sarah" without thinking!

Same th0ugh like Nicki i was also worried about other people seeing... ph34r.gif I've noticed that i have SO LITTLE photos of myself...because I'm just not photogenic..Though i have a phto I might put up soon...if i dare
Saxophonist
I still think that your current picture is great!

I hadn't noticed it was animated laugh.gif
YetAnotherPianist
I just think that cats look so much better than I do biggrin.gif.

No doubt see a few of you in Leicester smile.gif.
sarah-flute
You can't change your profile pic, YAP, the kitten needs to be there for when people need something to make them go "awwwwwwwwwwwwww"
AnotherPianist
Some of us already have famous faces as we've been in Libretto biggrin.gif.
sarah-flute
biggrin.gif true!
janexxx
Well I am (like Nicki) just a little nervous of having my face on the internet for all to see! There are a few around if you know where to look, some here, but not on my profile card. (Archie is much more photogenic!). So if anyone is really really curious they can look around and find me, but I'm not making it obvious!

And my user name is sort of my first name (without the kisses!). Like Sarah, I would slip up eventually, I know!
mwl1
I'm trying to get a decent one to put on!

For ages I thought of you as pronounced "jaynex" laugh.gif (not because I thought that was your real name I hasten to add laugh.gif)
Hulk
My profile picture is of me....at Christmas, I don't really have a problem with putting up pictures of myself, not because I think I'm good-looking or anything, just that I don't have any hang-ups about it.

Hulk (real name Richard smile.gif )

I still struggle with how to pronounce "sbhoa". I thought it was Irish!

sub-hoe-a biggrin.gif

Another who I tend to think of under that name despite knowing her real name.... rolleyes.gif
YetAnotherPianist
I thought it was pronounced 'sh-boa' - I must have transposed the b and the h - and janexxx was pronounced 'jane triple-x'. Now, I just say 'Jane' and AP knows who I mean wink.gif.

Makes me sound like some sort of premium grade lager! laugh.gif (or windscreen blink.gif )
sarah-flute
laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif brilliant... biggrin.gif
nicki_flute
I have hardly any pictures of myself...and I wouldn't want to scare you anyway.

It is quite funny because when talking to Amber or Cheeble, I can't call them their real names - because the forums names have just stuck!
neil.clarinet
I used to have a really old picture of me up but I've changed a bit since then. wink.gif I don't have any up-to date ones that can go up.

I chose to use my first name because I prefer being known as Neil than some random nickname, and I play clarinet. smile.gif You generally don't use your full name online. Only a few people here know my full name (and no-one knows that oh so embarrassing middle name. unsure.gif) tongue.gif
sarah-flute
I thought Amber was Amber's real name for months and months and months... laugh.gif
nicki_flute
Check my profile pic...

Brilliant. biggrin.gif
nicki_flute
I'll take it down in a minute - it is hideous!

No, leave it up, it's fine smile.gif
nicki_flute
It is coming down!
sarah-flute
Missed it. But then, I know what Nicki looks like anyway *grin* *smug* laugh.gif
nicki_flute
Do you think you can come to the Leicester concert, Sarah?
sarah-flute
Hope so: have sent katyjay the cheque for it, anyway laugh.gif so that's a good start!
nicki_flute
Oh yay biggrin.gif
Binka
I'm not a white and tabby trumpet-playing cat as my profile pic shows....honest biggrin.gif
The picture's actually meant to move..the cats fingers press the valves down but it wont work on here.
sbhoa
Just read the January Libretto....
emie-clarinet
I'll put a pic of me soon...just give me time to work out how it works.. smile.gif
scotty_doesnt_know
is my pic really that scary? blink.gif

i dont really have a problem with putting a picture up on here, although i dont always like sending pics to people on msn who i dont know are real. ie, i havent been introduced to them by a friend or someone i already know is legit.
emie-clarinet
My pics are too big... and the ones I have from the internet (which are not of me) can't be downloaded... Sorry...no can't do. sad.gif

I think this topic has encouraged people to put pictures up which is FAB. It makes chatting so much more....valid.

this topic inspired me to get my camera to work laugh.gif so here's the least dodgy picture of me in which i look least drunk! i don't really look like that (i don't think so anyway!) cameras aren't my friends! ph34r.gif
sarah-flute
It's great to see everyone's pictures biggrin.gif
