Now, I don't know about you, but I personally prefer seeing who I speak to via internet i.e. a picture and a name (real one obviously) as well. Aliases (sp?) and no face to it just seems...odd...
As you can tell I'm not ashamed of revealing my identity

I've just updated my profile with a picture of me.

I like to put faces/names to people, though it doesn't bother me too much when others don't want to. I don't have a problem being "me" on the 'net - hence I used my real name as half my username, and although I've had random profile pics in the past (dancing elmo, anyone?

) my current one is me.
I'm not sure I could keep up never telling anyone my name and always being just a username: I'd slip up eventually.

I would up a picture of me but
a) none of them look any good!

I would still be worried about other people seeing me - can guests see profiles?

No, they can't! Go on Nicki

! Mine is a picture of me as well!

Well, not quite, but I will put one on my profile soon.

It's quite good to be able to see who people are- but it ruins your images of what people look like! I always imagined sarah to have blonde hair.....

Actually, if anything, the converse happens - forums people I meet in real life are as likely to greet me with "Hi Katyjay" as with my own name

It confused my poor hubby when people did this on the phone too - "There's no-one of that name.....er yes, she's here...."

Well half of my user name is real, half isn't.
Can you guess which part is real??????
As for a face, one of these days a forum concert will appear on a date when I'm not playing/teaching/doing something else elsewhere......

It's great having photos on profiles, putting faces to names gives a whole new dimension to chatting. Who cares whether pictures look bad, everyone on here has a love of music in common and i doubt anyones very shallow! After reading this post I decided to make use of the picture thingy on the profiles which I didnt actually know existed!

I can see that being easier to "keep up", a name that could be a nickname. I think you're permanently now katyjay in my head even though I know your real name! I think I'd have trouble if I tried to just be a username that was totally made up...
I expect I'd still slip up sooner or later if I had a nick-name-ish username: eventually I'd sign something "Sarah" without thinking!

Well I am (like Nicki) just a little nervous of having my face on the internet for all to see! There are a few around if you know where to look, some here, but not on my profile card. (Archie is much more photogenic!). So if anyone is really really curious they can look around and find me, but I'm not making it obvious!
And my user name is sort of my first name (without the kisses!). Like Sarah, I would slip up eventually, I know!

I thought it was pronounced 'sh-boa' - I must have transposed the b and the h - and janexxx was pronounced 'jane triple-x'. Now, I just say 'Jane' and AP knows who I mean

It is quite funny because when talking to Amber or Cheeble, I can't call them their real names - because the forums names have just stuck!

Jan 28 2006, 04:08 PM
I used to have a really old picture of me up but I've changed a bit since then.

I don't have any up-to date ones that can go up.
I chose to use my first name because I prefer being known as Neil than some random nickname, and I play clarinet.

You generally don't use your full name online. Only a few people here know my full name (and
no-one knows that oh so embarrassing middle name.
