[size=7]Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I've been reading people's comments...it all seems very friendly. I have just started teaching myself the clarinet. I'd like to know how I can find a teacher. I've tried the net, but have not been successful. I am struggling with the low notes...and the high ones. If it involves the keys...I'm lost unsure.gif Basically...I need someone to guide me.
Anybody any ideas?

Have you tried the music shops in your area? Or is there a music department in the university who may have students wanting to teach, or just know the local scene. Many suggest looking through the ISM directory but I don't know how comprehensive that is.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the clarinet. biggrin.gif

Yes, try Sheehans, City Music or Churchgate music shops. Sheehans would be the best bet. Also, you could contact Leicestershire Arts Music, they might be able to help. smile.gif

I live near Leicester...I could give you a name of someone but I don't know how to contact him.

Thank you Neil and Nicki,
I'll try Sheehans...that's where I bought the clarinet. Nicki, you can always give me the name of the person...who knows, I might find him. What's the Leicestershire Arts Music?

Thanks

Sheehans have an online request form for local music teachers - just go to their site.

I'm in Harborough - just down the road from you! I don't know of any leicester teachers, but my friend is taught by someone just a little way off in Brixworth - might be a bit too far for you, but if you don't get any joy in leicester, send me a pm, and I'll get their contact details for you.

You might also want to try the Leicester symphony, as many of their members teach.

When I was in university a few years ago, my clarinet teacher taught me in one the local schools where he teaches during the day (?Leicester Grammar School) and he lives in Brixworth. I think I got in touch with him via the university music department. If you want his name, PM me.

Hello everyone! I have found a teacher (who is very busy...) and have booked my first lesson. Thanks for your help.
