I'm getting quite excited!

It's coming up to the opening night for our college's production of the Full Monty and I'm stage manager! As well as having a few lines to say here and there, I'm "in charge" apparently since our director/producer is sitting out-front so as I'm sure you can imagine, I'm nervous, especially since I haven't had this level of responsibilty before!

Can anyone who has offer any sort of tips on how to organise the team when doing scene changes and so forth. I have about 5 crew under my wing and any cast who happen to be lazing around. Bear in mind: no curtains! We're doing it in a way where the band is at the back of the stage and always visible which means there will be no closing and opening to find a new scene, everything is smoke and mirrors, so to speak! biggrin.gif

This isn't just going to be another school play either, we're fortunate enough to have some well known professional teachers working in college and the standards are high....hence the nervousness!

If there's anyone in the North West area who'd like to pop along, PM me for details, you'd be most welcome! Be quick though - tickets are selling thick and fast....YAY! biggrin.gif

Sounds fantastic, Freda.

Just to clarify for other forums members - are you referring to the North West of England, the North West of London, or somewhere else?

i've never been part of the stage team, but i've been in the chorus and band for a few productions. the stage team at our school works because they plan out what needs to be done and make sure everyone knows exactly what they are doing for that. the cast are warned not to touch or move any props and not to get in the way! and we have two dress rehearsals and a shorter performance for primary schools where the stage team get to run through and sort out any potential problems. such as a complicated and rather problematic scene-change this year - band eventually played our two-line cross over 12 times on the longest time and around 8/9 times on the shortest. maybe warning the conductor and band to be prepared to ad-lib is a good idea smile.gif we had a pianist on 'standby' after the pieces had finished, in case anything had gone wrong with the change over or quick changes by the actors.
hope my rambling is of some use to you tongue.gif
