Full Version: Fingering Advice Needed

I'm seeking some fingering advice regarding the melody from an 8 bar section of the Forrest Gump ("Feather theme") which I've placed an image of here:

www.foothillsforum.com/finger01.gif

The melody is made up of two parts - descending half-notes, with quarter/eighth-note activity above.

A few things are throwing me...

1. What might be good RH fingers to use for those half-notes? Should I even consider "borrowing" some fingers from my LH?

2. Early in the melody, there's the same E played with both the RH and LH. What should I do there?

3. Also earlier on, there's an F# played at the same time as an A, which seems a bit of a stretch for the RH.

4. And what about that repeated D half-note and eighth-note cluster. Just ignore the initial eighth-note?

I don't want it to seem like I haven't made an attempt at working out the fingering, but if anybody here has already played this piece dozens of times, with some optimal fingerings, if they could post here what fingerings you use, that would be most appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Ok lets see now...
Ill do the first two backwards because of the bar order.
1. The E (note with brackets around it), will be played with the left hand. This will allow you to position your thumb on the A after that.
2. Your thumb should be on the A and should play most of the minims(halfnotes).
3. Try perhaps playing the F# with the left hand. I can play it with my right hand...prob coz my fingers are long. Pedaling can also help you there. Im not sure how big your hands are wink.gif
4. Dont "ignore" the initial eight note. Basically what the music is saying is to hold the D minim and play the quavers over the top.

Check out this link for the fingering I used. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the advice so far!

As I'm practicing the segment (very slowly at the moment...), I'm having trouble listening out for the melody, because those half-notes keep getting in the way, and throwing me.

For use as an audio guide, and as a big favor, I was wondering if anybody could play and record those eight bars, and then either email me an MP3 (simonclarke AT yahoo DOT com) or better still post a link to the file, so others can hear it also?

Cheers, Miner2049er.
