Welcome to forums Sunshine. smile.gif You probably don't know yet, but text language such as 'any1', 'u' and 'wat' are not allowed here, as it is unfair for many forum users who do not speak English as a first language.

I used to find sightreading really heard too! One way to improve, is just to play lots of new pieces. Start off with easier stuff to sightread and get progressively more difficult as you improve.

I find sight-reading difficult too, but if you keep practicing it should be much easier.

By the way, I found the posts in this thread (apart from CPPF) hard to sight-read as well, so can you try to not write in all capital letters or text-talk please. Sorry to be a bit moany. And welcome to the forums! smile.gif

Cheers,

I found sight-reading pretty easy when I am in grade 5...maybe because I learn all the keys with its key-signature in that grade.

First thing I do in sight reading--look and find out how many sharps or flats it has...
Sight-reading may seems difficult when the speed is "presto" or "vivace".

sight-reading is my weakest point too. i'm much better at playing by ear...

does anyone have any tips (except for relentless practice) to improve sight-reading?

hey, i think it depends who you are, and what instrument it is, because i'm hopeless at sight reading for the piano, but great on the flute. if your lucky to be good at sight reading, use it, if your not, then you might just ave to work a little bit harder. smile.gif

It's boring and old fashined advice but it truely does help.

Learn your scales. Be able to play them reaaly fast and memorized. When you have this skill, then sight-reading is much easier.

I used to be okay until I got to the higher grades... now I have a slight phobia of piano sightreading. tongue.gif It's really hard for me, and has always drastically pulled my marks down in exams... mad.gif

I'm pretty good at scales but not noticed it making a difference to my sight reading.
