yea i agree, if im ever stressedor worried about something i just go and play anything i can and it really calms me down! it is also really distracting, which isn't that good when im supposed to be doing some homework... aw well! if i could just study music forever it would be amazing!

I love playing - it engages my brain in a completely diffferent manner from work, and relaxes me. Just wish I had more time to dedicate to it though... sad.gif

I love playing my violin. At the moment I'm playing Theme from Schindler's List on violin (its a G7 piece but I'm playing it for pleasure). Incidently in History we're starting on WW II and the Holocaust. (sp?) We've read loads and seen stuff about it at whenever i play i think of everything ive read/seen. It really helps your playing if you have inspiration or something to help you feel the music. It feels like im in a dream when i play like I'm not paying attention to anything else exept my music.

I've found playing pieces which I love and know well can calm me down immensely. It is just a way to shut yourself off from the rest of the world. But pieces I'm just starting to learn, as well as scales and sight-reading, often have the opposite effect of getting me stressed if I can't do them.

It makes me feel like me - I'm more comfortable playing my violin than doing anything else, because it's not an instrument any more, it's a superior way of speaking.

It's very true. You can convey a message, without speaking a single word.

Yeah, it's an escape from the work or any worries. While playing the piano, it seems there's only me and the piano communicating without any interruptions from the outside world biggrin.gif

i find that i use it as an escape too, i really enjoy making music, its one thing to listen to it, but its much more satisfying to play it, to get a piece totally perfect isn't something that anyone on the streat can do with a click of their fingers, and i find it really cheers me smile.gif biggrin.gif tongue.gif

I find it fun and also give me a sense of achievement. Just being able to say I can play makes me feel good about myself. Yes it is good when I'm not feeling brill. Music is actually the first thing I turn to when I'm down. I'll just blast out music and then play it.

It makes me feel complete, when I'm playing no matter what's going on in my life, it just takes it all away and there's just me.

Music is an escape from everything. And no matter how I feel or how my day's been, playing music instantly relaxes me and cheers me up. I use to let out my emotions too, I honestly don't know what I'd do without it! Long live music! biggrin.gif

Music is a part of my life, not an escape from it! smile.gif

Also different songs are beter for different times. Like when I'm feeling just a bit down I like to listen to "On the Wagon" by Green Day, when I'm angry I listen to "Nymphetamine" by Cradle of Filth and when I'm tired and feeling like giving up on everything I listen to Push It, Salt N Pepa. There's a few others too but those are the ones I remember the most. I wonder why?
hellokitty
Because you have super taste in music!!

LOL. I suppose the Death Metal kind of lets out all the anger, hehe. Well On The Wagon has a very mellow sound and Push It is just one of those feel good songs.

Yea, I feel the same, I enjoy playing , but when you have alot going on, like Bulling or something, when you play everything you have goes into the music, and for the time you forget everything in the world, but you and the music.

i first got really really dependent on music when i had a bit of trouble with friends at school (we fell apart in quite a messy way...) and my music teacher wrote all the bass clef notes onto a piece of music so i could learn the piano version rather than just keyboard...it was something to focus on, i since decided i wanted to become a music teacher - i just couldn't imagine a job not involving music!
now it's an escape from school stress, something to pass the time and escape off into my own little world somewhere...

Music makes me feel fantastic, especially in a band or orchestra situation. The best moments of my life have almost all involved music. Nailing something in practice makes me feel good; being blown away by a wave of sound makes me remember a concert forever. Music is also a stepping stone to other things - I've met some of the loveliest, funniest and strangest people around through music and you never run out of things to talk about!

Bands and orchestras are probably the highlights of my week because I know that no matter how bad my day has been I'll be able to have a good evening and a laugh and forget about it. As for listening to music, I can come home feeling depressed and down, and I can just press a few buttons on my MP3 player and have amazing, powerfully music to cheer me up no end. If I ever forget the best times of my life, there's a tune I associate with it that I can put on and it'll all come back. Music's like a cure-all. It's brilliant.

firebird - you nail it on the head!
band and choir rehearsals are amazing - just being right in the middle of all that music! i wouldn't have survived my gcse's without the therapy i got from it - it's such a big part of my life! i need music!! *goes mad*
also, most of my friends are musicians of some kind or another - coincidence? i just seem to get on with musicians more - even people who i got on with who i didn't know were musicians then tell me they have learnt instruments in the past....spooky....maybe it changes people that much! concerts leave me on a 'concert high' for days, the memories last for ever and ever! i love them so much smile.gif and just the quiet therapy of escaping off into a little world of all your old (and new) favourites is so amazing - i don't understand how people can live without playing instruments! they must be pretty weird... tongue.gif
