I really dont think you should jump right in to Grade 8, you may want to consider changing teacher or music school, given you have mentioned about your school. Go for a prefessional teacher, or a proper school.

Don't jump to grade 8 because for practical exam, the passing mark is 100. That means, you will need to struggle for your grade 8 exam. It is really tough. Find a reliable teacher who doesn't place money as the top priority. The teacher should has the interest of the student as the first priority. Try to manage your time and revise daily. Don't wait until last minute and burn midnight oil. It won't help and you will feel streeful. Read more books. tongue.gif

109 marks for grade 5 isn't bad at all!!!Anyway. lots of people panic when they go into the exam room and don't get as many marks as they deserve because they are nervous - its only normal. As for skipping from grade 5 to grade 8, it depends how confident you feel, if you're not confident and you're teacher is still keen for you to take the exam, tell him/her that even if they don't want you to do grades 6 or 7, you would like to try out some of the pieces, just so you feel more confident. Tell them you want to do this because you think it will get you better marks in your grade 8 when you actually take the exam. If you say you want to try grade 6 and 7 pieces to help you with the grade 8 that they want you to do so badly, they will probably understand. If they still don't understand, maybe you should think about changing teacher.Good Luck biggrin.gif

I totally agree with musiclover. Skipping from Grade 5 to 8 is a big leap and unless you're sound in your technique, I suggest you at least go through the Grade 6 syllabus to have a feel of the technical level required for Grade 8. At the very last grade, many things will have to come in in order to score a decent mark. Hope you give the matter some thought. Good luck!
