Hey friends,
I am trying to find a good guitar tuner. What are some good and bad qualities to look for in a guitar tuner for an accoustic guitar? I am looking for a tuner that will help me learn to tune on my own eventually without a tuner! Any suggestions?
thanks,

Tuning on your own is pretty straightforward. Press your fifth fret down on the bottom E string, and compare the sound of the E string, with the next string up (A string). Tune the D string till the two sound identical. Move on to the next string, tuning in the same way (A string fifth fret, with D string). Continue in this manner, but remember that when you're depressing the G string, you need to press down the fourth fret, to get the b sound.

That's how to tune it in to itself. However, if you want to make sure it's properly in pitch, you might want to think about getting an electronic chromatic tuner (Korg do a good one) or an appropriate tuning fork. Alternately, there are online tuners, if you're near a computer, or go see a friend who has a piano.

Hope that helps

Thanks! I think I will purchase a cheap chromatic tuner to help me out. I'm just begining and I don't hear pitch that well yet!
