one of my friends got 46 for his grade 4 saxaphone exam....has anyone here got lower??
Violinia

bernie
it was the other

Okay then, consider this...

If you attempt every section of the exam then it's not possible to get fewer than 50 marks on an exam: one can only get 0 if 'no work is offered' and then the marks go from the range 7-10 at the bottom (the bottom range varies from section to section, see the mark scheme in these music exams) so adding up all the minimum marks for attempting gives you 50 marks: so either your friend isn't telling the truth; he didn't attempt all the sections (and hence didn't try very hard) or the ABRSM don't mark by their mark scheme.

I kind of feel sorry for your mate bernie. I know you didn't mention his name but why on earth would you want to know if someone got lower than him at their grade? What's the point? I know that the grade system is used as proof of your qualifications, but everyone puts a lot of effort into working for it and even though not everyone does as well as the boaster who told you his lowest mark was 134, everyone tries really hard. Anyway, music is meant to be enjoyed. I found out personally that when you make it into a competetion and compare yourself with others, you end up just making yourself unhappy.
bernie
sorry abigail...i'm totally not in to compititions either. i was just hoping that someone else had got a lower mark than my friend so that i could tell him. he felt really bad about that exam at the time but has managed to pull past that and is planning to sit G5 in winter.

46?? He must have did it on purpose!
Cath22
If he got 46, it can't have been an ABRSM exam...perhaps it was Trinity, I know their marking is out of 100.

I know of a student who could not make the grade and the examiner did not give her any mark, but commented that she should try again the next year.

What about 0 if you don't attend?
cecilia
I don't think you get 0 for non-attendance, just a telling off!
You only get 0 if you turn up and refuse to do anything!
Jobie
Is this true? huh.gif
sbhoa
Yes.... as far as I know.
If you don't turn up you just lose your money dry.gif
Can't give any sort of mark to someone who is not there..... can you unsure.gif

I havent got my Grade4 violin exam results back yet but it really wouldnt surprise me if i got a lower mark than your mate cos i really messed up!! and i mean REALLY messed up!! that exam could not have possibly gone worse as i totally messed up every single one of my pieces and every single other section of the exam!! and it wasnt due to not trying hard enough or anything, i dont know what came over me cos the night before the exam i could play the pieces perfect and knew every single scale really well!! AND i got near to full marks on my grade5 piano exam a few months before!! i guess it just happens especially if u get really nervous!! unsure.gif

I should try that...go in my exam and refuse to do anything, i might get carried awy in a striaght jacket or something...that would just be cool

My lowest was 109 for grade 5 piano....I got this lady examiner and when the results came out, she ended failing 3/4 of my teachers students. I think her favourite number is 9. She passed me by 9, failed my friend by 9 and gave my sister 89...

i know a person who got 81 for grade 5 piano
jkhouse20
My lowest mark is 120 for Grade 4 Piano and my highest is 137 for Grade 3 Saxophone, however I think that was a bit of a fluke because nearly all the students (about 15) got distinctions. I think he was a very generous examiner. In contrast to this I think that the examiner for Grade 4 Piano was rather tight due to the fact that nobody got distinctions! Perhaps it's just the luck of the draw!?

My piano teacher had never had anyone fail an exam. Then I got 102 for grade 4. I didn't half get my ears chimped. I got a merit for grade 5 but the experience was so traumatic I did no more practical exams and spend two years doing Mozart sonatas. I might do grade 5 violin (as an adult starter) next year.

my lowest ever mark was 90 for grade 4 violin ouch!!!

my lowest mark was 66 i think in grade 5 piano, but that was with london college, and im sure that pass mark was 65. whatever it is, i got 1 more than the pass mark.

yes the 66 would have been out of 100, wouldn't it!
Was that a TCL exam then?
