I love John Williams (who composed the Harry Potter music), and I think his music for the film was spot on! I think my favourite John Williams score is probably Schindler's List though.
One thing my friends and I discovered fairly early on was that you can fit the main theme from Elgar's Cello Concerto (1st movement) to the main theme of Harry Potter (the bit where they're going across the lake in the boats and you see Hogwarts for the first time in the first one), and it fits perfectly. Perhaps Williams was making a statement about Englishness, lol? I was in a performance of the Elgar at the time, so we did try it out!!
Excuse my knowledge of Harry Potter. I was an undergraduate at the college where they did some of the filming, and it sent the whole place mad!

Have either of you got either the soundtrack or the sheet music for Harry Potter for your instrument? Because if you like the music on the film then you should definately get these. They are so brilliant and I alsways want to play them, especially Family Portrait!

I've played Harry Potter music on the flute- it was a duet for the school concert.

I really like it.

I like the music, too - it gives some sort of eerie feeling that 's sad yet satisfying at the same time. Practically anything John Williams-ish attracts my attention.

I think John Williams id the best too!
I've got one of his albums which has the music from nearly all the film tunes he's done.
It's funny 'cause I've just heard today that in our school orchestra soon we're gonna play Harry Potter. I'm really excited!
Also, i'm part of the National Cildren's Orchestra and in our last concert we played 'Superman' by John Williams. It really lifted everyone's spirits!!! And, it's just wicked fun to play!
'Respect' for John Williams!!!!!!!!

By the way, Helena, that's really cool about Elgar's Cello Concerto!
I never would have thought it would sound anything like any film music!!
Do you play the cello??? ( I DO!!!!!!!!!)

Someone I know online is making an animated version of Harry Potter and asked me for suggestions for music, so I suggested the Elgar for that bit, just for a bit of a joke!
I play the flute not the cello, I was just in the backing orchestra for the cello concerto... the flute part's quite hard though, either Elgar didn't know much about the range of the instrument, or he was just a big meanie, giving us an exposed top top A and Bb after sitting through six minutes of the slow movement with nothing to play, with our instruments getting all cold...

I didn't think the music for the third one was as memorable as the other two... I've only seen it once though, I may revise my opinion when I go see it again!

Has anyone seen the sheet music for Lord Of the Rings yet? Or Harry Potter 3 (prisoner of azkaban)? I asked a shop a while ago and they said that Warner Bros hadn't bought it to the UK yet but this was ages ago, way before the third film came out.
