Don't worry! The tenor is just like a big descant. The music will look exactly like descant music (ie in treble clef) but will sound an octave lower. I'm sure you'll be fine!

jo.
it seems to be my catchphrase right now but my form for leicester will "be in the post soon"
Id love to be in the ensmeble on some sort of C recorder... i would probably be about grade 7-8 ish a while ago (was gonna do recorder at uni- but i cant play treble in F... the fingerings messed with my mind) if the grades went that high in C recorders. However taking into account my sight reading i could probably managed grade 6ish stuff...
Is that any good?
oh and i have my own descant and tenor

I'll go and hide with Andrea in the treble part, if it is easier to find descant players!

Oh thank goodness. So what I read on the music - will that correspond to the same fingerings as I would use for a descant (eg a C on the treble clef music will be fingered just like a C on a descant)? Sorry, i know this is dim, but I've never played one of these things in my life - have never even been in a group where one's been played.
I dug out my alto and descant recorders and had a blow yesterday. I'm still at primary school standard!

That's right - with the added advantage that tenor parts are often easier than descant parts...
You can get some very good recorder playing at primary school...

Hmmm. I'm thinking of the 'group taught by a classroom teacher' variety. We were taught to read music using the recorder, before taking up strings / brass. We carried on with it - but I remember a hideous variety of shrieks in the classroom sessions, right the way through primary school.
I don't really have a standard to measure my ability against, as we didn't do grades in school.
Thanks for the reassurance, though Willobie. I'm still feeling rather scared and intimidated about playing with real musicians!

You ARE a real musician, with your singing and cello and guitar, and if you mean worried about playing with "real" recorder players... well I for one am no more or less a real recorder player than you are

So I shouldn't worry about it. There will be plenty of us in the same boat listening with awe to those who are really good on their whistles

Don't forget the whole point of Forums Concerts is about "having a go" and having fun making music together - not about a professional-standard recital.
So as long as you can hold your recorder to your mouth and blow through the mouthpiece, join the ensemble!

I'd love to play, but unfortunately Revd Dr D and the boys need me that weekend. We're going to the inlaws and taking them to see The Chuckle Brothers at the Theatre Royal in Norwich.
Any chance of an East Anglian concert? I'd be able to get to that one

There's Woodford Green in Essex in September.
Concerts happen where there are people prepared to organise them - and my offer to help anyone organise a concert who's interested and has enough support still stands.
Cheers
