Full Version: Anyone Play Villa Lobos Prelude 1

I've got most of this under my belt now (in a basic can play it through start to finish way - the dynamics etc need a lot of work still!). But I'm struggling with the section in the middle - the bit that you play the first time through, before the DS al coda. It's a series of chords, played with a barre (starting in the seventh fret, then up to the 8th, before moving down to the first fret, followed by a B major chord played at the second fret), alternating with a harmoning g / b played at the 12th fret. I'm having trouble shooting up and down the fretboard fast enough, and consequently it sounds a bit halting (more like I'm taking a half beat rest than playing a nice flowing stream of music). I wondered if anyone had any hints for this, or whether it's just a case of practice practice practice.

sorry I can't help with that one [i played the first part so never hit the snags you talk of] preferring the 2nd and 4th preludes.

i didn't get on with villa lobos' guitar music, must say. some of the studies are nice but the 3rd prelude just goes on and on and on.

good luck though

edit: however, me mate 'ere just had a butcher's and, yes, it's as you said. sad.gif just need touch the strings at the 12th fret then barre the chord again...and again...
but that's villa lobos for you. most of his music is awkward/ difficult.

Oh I really like no 1. I'm thoroughly enjoying playing it - it is difficult, but the plus side of that is it makes so many other pieces feel easy! smile.gif

I'll have to just keep going over it a squillion times then. My teacher makes it look so effortless. When he plays it it sounds absolutely exquisite.
