Dear All,

I am 32 male, I learnt keyboard and POP piano sometime last few years. Now, I started to learn classical piano and my teacher told me that I can join Grade 2. However, I want to take exam from grade 3 onward.

Could you kindly advise me...can I take grade 3 exam without passing grade 2 ? Anybody like me, first exam is grade 3 ?

Regards

I got 130 in my first piano exam for Grade 3 in 9/03 after I learn piano for 1.5 years!!

Absolutely the only restrictions on having one exam before being allowed to take another are Grade 5 theory, before Grade 6 practical, and Grade 8 before hitting the diplomas

Hi, I did try to reply to this earlier but it hasn't accepted for some reason -

You don't need any exams to be able to go in for Grade 3. The only requirements are Grade 5 theory before you can do Grade 6 practical and Grade 8 before you can do any diplomas.

But I would take your teachers advise.

Thanks All !!!!!!!

It is time for me to busy with piano again. I am thinking to buy a second hand piano cause I am now using digital piano.

The first music exam I ever took was grade 3, and I had only been playing my instrument (flute) for a few years. Unfortunetly I had a really bad cold when I took the exam, and although I passed, I found the whole process rather traumatic. (Really bad nerves) Which have caused me problems ever since.

I has however already worked through some grade 2 pieces.

If youare comfortable with the scales and aurals then, I'd ask you're teacher to think again, seeing as you have been playing for some time, but missing out on the early aurals can cause problems, I jumped in at grade 3 and have been rubbish at them ever since!
