Full Version: Songs For Alto + Tenor

Just wondering if any of you "real" singers can give me a few suggestions: My husband is a tenor (definitely a tenor, not a baritone - doesn't really like going below D) and I prefer to sing alto (although I do have quite a big range - and always sing descants at Christmas!). We would like to have some music we could sing together, but don't know where to look for this combination of voices. Something baroque-y or church-y would do fine, but anything would do, really. It's got to sound OK unaccompanied as well because I can't play and sing at the same time!!!

If anyone knows where we could find anything that might fit that would be WONDERFUL!!!

Thanks.

I have a thought on accompanying yourselves. If you have a keyboard or electric piano with a record facility you can play and record the accomp and them sing to it at the press of a button. I have a lovely old book of duets from many lands that I use for my school choirs and for duet work with young singers. There are some well known ones such as Santa Lucia and they are great fun for quick learning and reading. Another idea that I have is to look at the Hal Leonard series of duets that come with a cd accomp. Also you could look at some Purcell duets. You might also enjoy the Britten duet, Abraham and Isaac.
