Bring back Murray!!!

I remember when he commentated for the BBC at last year's European Grand Prix (the race where Markus Winkelhock took the lead)

In the Malaysian Grand Prix, Raikkonen won, Kubica came 2nd, Kovalainen was 3rd, Trulli was 4th and Hamilton could only finish in 5th.

Had Monaco run to the full 78 laps, Hamilton would have retired, he picked up a puncture on the last lap before the 2 hour limit was reached...

QUOTE(noodle @ Jun 10 2008, 09:37 AM)

I think this and similar motor racing events are an enormous waste of fuel. We are being urged to reduce our fuel use with the implication that we should avoid unnecessary road journeys, travel by public transport, car-share when possible, yet these drivers in fast cars at high speeds spend hours driving round a short circuit wasting fuel for no reason.
Motor sport in general (not just F1) has done a great job in advancing automotive technology. Competition has bred a highly fuel efficient and reliable machine the like of which we wouldn't have anticipated 40 years ago (and I'm old enough to remember). Modern lightweight engines are amazing machines and if we drove around at the speeds we did 40 years ago and did the same amount of mileage, we would see a massive net reduction in fuel consumption. The fact is, we all like our fast cars and we like driving them. Motor sport is not the issue, it's down to us, the general public, to cut our fuel consumption.
