all credit too to Massa for a couple of amazing overtaking opportunities... once at the hairpin past Barichello and ? (can't remember) then later past Trulli when Glock made a mistake!

Motor sport in general (not just F1) has done a great job in advancing automotive technology. Competition has bred a highly fuel efficient and reliable machine the like of which we wouldn't have anticipated 40 years ago (and I'm old enough to remember). Modern lightweight engines are amazing machines and if we drove around at the speeds we did 40 years ago and did the same amount of mileage, we would see a massive net reduction in fuel consumption. The fact is, we all like our fast cars and we like driving them. Motor sport is not the issue, it's down to us, the general public, to cut our fuel consumption.

It's the French Grand Prix this weekend. Wonder how Hamilton will do with his ten place grid penalty...

Both Ferraris will start on the front row of the grid. Hamilton will start 13th. Kovalainen qualified 6th, but has been dropped back five places for impeding Webber, so he will start 10th. Coulthard will now start from 7th.

Meanwhile, Coulthard has announced he will retire at the end of the season. He's always been one of my favourite drivers. Wonder if that means Barrichello will retire too...
