it would be a shame if he were penalised - he went when he was told... but it is a team thing after all.

rain.... and Raikonnen couldn't hang on.. with Lewis sliding off one side and a back-marker the other... he lost it after that...
Great drive though, and all credit to Hamilton who did hang on... and Massa right behind... good choice from Heidfeldt to change tyres in the last moments

Hamilton has just been stripped of his win and has been given a 25-second penalty. That means Massa has now won, Heidfeld claims his fourth 2nd place finish of the season and Hamilton is 3rd. That's a bit harsh for Hamilton...
Glock has also been given a 25-second penalty for overtaking Webber under yellow flags on the final lap due to Raikonnen's incident, promoting Webber up to 8th for the final WC point.
A good drive from the two Toro Rosso drivers today.

A bit harsh? It's utterly ridiculous. I will be hugely disappointed if the appeal doesn't overturn the decision by the stewards. I'm absolutely sure Lewis did exactly what the rule book requires - he even passed behind the Ferrari which clearly demonstrated he had handed back the place he gained by cutting the chicane.
oldnotes
Sep 7 2008, 10:41 PM
The Ferrari was half a cars length ahead through most of the right-hander. All Lewis had to do was back off and follow through the left hander instead of cutting the chicane. If he had done that and still outbraked Raikonen into La Source then he would have won deservedly. Great race and Monza should now be VERY interesting. Roll on next weekend.

Vettel's on pole after a very wet Italian GP qualifying session. Massa's 6th, Kubica qualified 11th, Raikonnen only managed 14th and Hamilton is only 15th.
And Force India got through to Q2 for the first time, with Fisichella qualifying 12th, one 1000ths of a second behind Kubica.

Car ExpertA very mature drive. There are an impressive bunch of young drivers around at the moment (and more waiting in the wings). Did you hear Vettel was practising (is that the right sp? - need to be careful around here) his wet weather technique on Schumacher's kart track?
Very "spirited" drive by Lewis too (though it had to be). Did you catch Martin Brundell's comment "who was that bloke wearing Lewis's helmet in qualifying?".

Yes, F1 is on in my country Singapore now! Roads are blocked as a result, and lots of companies have to make way, since the race is held in the heart of the city. My favourite music library is closed due to the road blockage. Despite the inconveniences in our small little island, I am still quite excited to watch it on TV! I just have to get used to all the drivers changing teams, because I kind of never got updated with the Grand Prix news since Year 2002!

Awesome race, it looked really cool at night with all the lights. And watching the Ferarri mechanics sprinting down the pit lane to help Massa while the McClaren team applauded was hilarious. It's looking good for Hamilton but then we thought that last year...
Car Expert
Sep 29 2008, 04:28 PM
Yeah, that was funny what happened to Massa.
It was indeed a successful Grand Prix. Robert Kubica said at the end of the race that he hopes the organisers plan to make the road surface smoother for next year, but I think it looks good as it is.
Ideally Hamilton will want to secure the title by the Chinese GP as the last round will be Massa's home GP. Whether that will mean anything we don't know yet considering what happened to Alonso at Valencia.

Indeed. Kubica's still in the hunt.
Hamilton has accused Massa of deliberately running into him in that second lap incident. What Lewis has to remember is that if the incident didn't happen, Massa would've probably scored more points than he actually did as Hamilton got a drive-through penalty for a separate incident. So in a way, the Massa incident has actually helped his title chances in the end...

So pleased that Hamilton won the title though. He's worked hard this season and he was just as gutted last year after being pipped at the post by just one point. In Formula 1, like any other sport, a lot of success is also luck. Being in the right place at the right time, comes to mind.
