Forty was a worry, because I'd been thirty since I was about fifteen, but I've adjusted OK. I wouldn't want to be a teenager again, or in my early twenties - can't remember much of the latter anyway, due to having worked between 60 and 110 hours per week. Once an adult, age becomes very much less important anyway - I too have friends ranging from 21 through to 103.

I can sympathise with you there. I'm exactly nine weeks older than my husband. The 'change of decade years' are particularly trying.
My late uncle was 5 days younger than my Dad. My Dad's birthday is 30th December; my uncle's 4th January. My uncle spent the year my Dad was due to turn 80 saying,'You're going to be 80 this year. I'm not going to be 80 until next year'.

My age is annoying. if you go out on a Friday night then the police don't have to explain why they have stopped you if you have. We were walking down the street the other day with J20s in our hands. They wouldn't believe us that they didn't contain alcohol. It will be worse from Monday.......I'll be a year older and be more likely to be stopped.

Quite ironically, the age that is supposed to be the most exciting and unforgettable of one's lifetime, has been the most difficult, confusing and even boring period to me ! My adolescence, about 14-23, was my personal 'Dark Age', full of philosophical struggling, unsure and worrying about where I was going to end up.
I regretted loosing my childhood and having to face the hard floor under my cracked illusions.
Anyway, this is all past. Happy to be over 30 !

i'm 19.. 20 this year.. which has both good and bad points, and is kinda scary!
it feels wierd, because as a kid there's always that thing of 'i can't wait to be 18, cos then i can do all this legally, people will see me as an adult, i'll be my own person'... etc etc
then you hit 18 and think... oh.. dammit... what now?
and now because the nearest town is quite small, and not a uni town.. going into our local pub my mate and i always say we feel ssoooo old! because everyone in there's underage, hehe.
Its much nicer when everyone comes back for university holidays

on the other hand.. every year i feel more like myself!.. (if that makes any sense)
spent years in school feeling like everyone saw me as this person that i never was inside, never wanted to be, and didnt recognise. now i feel like me, and like people who meet me are seeing my true nature.. which is cool

I'm 17 as well, but it's got to be the oddest feeling. I don't feel older than 15, and I'm turning 18 is about half a year. University next year, adult status next year... And it's not about feeling old, it's about how I don't feel old enough to be 17 and that the world always just seem to be going a little too fast for my mind to get any grounding.
It's funny how you spend the first quarter of your life in school so you can get a job and make money, you spend the next half of your life trying to make money, then you get cancer and die (although, of course everyone has cancerous cells in their body *love my Bio teacher*)

I remember when I was a little kid (about 6 or 7), I felt as if I had lived for ages already; when I thought about my past, it seemed infinite, and I could hardly believe that all this wasn't more than just 6 or 7 years. So when I thought about my future, I considered that '30 years later' would be something like the infinite future, never to come actually. But I was terribly wrong about that. Ever since, I've had to readjust my psychological watch again and again. A painful matter.

In a sense, this is logical. Our estimation of our (past) lifetime doesn't change very much, but as we are getting older, any time unit (a week or a year) will become smaller and smaller in proportion to of our total past lifetime.
I believe that there's only one solution: what we are missing in length of time, we should try to gain in width. Give a second dimension to your time. If I believe that life can be eternal, it would be in width, not in length.

I am currently hating being 16 and at the brink of doing GCSEs. All I seem to do is complete coursework on pointless subjects which I won't be doing at A-level, revising for exams (either internal or external) or being told off by teachers because I got an A instead of an A* and I was happy with the A (or a B ). Also friends aren't being the most....helpful either.

Hey, I like being 16, cos there's no point in berating your age cos you can do sfa about it! But also, it's a cool age to be cos you're a semiadult; some rights but you can still be as cheerfully irresponsible as you like.
