BEASTY pianos. Gotta love them.

A bit bright in tone though, but Yamahas have an excellent touch. Enjoy! Wish I had one.... *dreams*

U1??
It's a piano which suites basically everyone from beginner up to LRSM level...
yes, that's right, it's got a great touch....(lol, I've actually written a piece on it 2 yrs ago, when I first played it, I thought it is the best upright in the world... cool.gif I can send it to you if you like:>) it's also got a wonderful resonance as well, and a reasonable price, it's a bargin! laugh.gif
The other model of yamaha upright that I'll prefer is the U5, it's got a much fuller tone colour that the U1 but of course, it's much more expensive. I wouldn't prefer the U3, since the quality of the piano (both resonance and touch) doesn't equal to the price...
Anyway PianoPlayerScottie1901, U1 is a good choice.

With all due respect, what would you do if we all replied that they were rubbish and a waste of money? ohmy.gif

I'm sure that won't be the case - lots of Yamaha fans on here. Congrats on getting your new instrument, hope you get years of enjoyment from it!

A great piano, I bought mine new five years ago. It gets played a lot.

How old is yours - is it new new or new to you?

IMO, U1 is one of the best model produced by Yamaha. It's certainly a lovely instrument.. biggrin.gif

I have a U3. Bought it 2 years ago and it still doesn't keep it's tune very well. I bought it because I didn't feel I knew enough about them to go for a second hand instrument. I wish I'd known that U1s are better! unsure.gif
another crazy pianist
Any Yamaha upright piano should keep its tune well enough, certainly U3. Check out if there isn't something else. Are temperature & humidity stable enough (16-25°C/50-70%)? Is the place allright? (Not too close to heating, windows, outside doors...) How often do you have it tuned ? (First tuning after max. 6 months, then at least once a year.)

It's 6 feet away from a tiny little radiator and I've been having it tuned about every three months. I do use it a lot, and my Poulenc piece does have a few very loud loud bits, so maybe it's me causing the problem. I suppose I'm just disappointed after spending all that money. I thought it would be better.

Hi en serrant smile.gif

I have a U3 which I bought new about 7 years ago and I haven't had any problems with it at all! Mine holds its tune just fine. I suggest asking your tuner what she/he thinks. What exactly do you mean when you say it doesnt keep its tune? I have my piano tuned every 6 months but sometimes wait a year, this is perfectly normal. smile.gif

I love my U3 wub.gif

Does anyone know about G3 the yahama grand??
I was told that I'll have to do my Dip exam on a G3 Yamaha grand.
Does it have a soft touch?? Or is it difficult to play it??

It's hard to explain, but the pitch "wobbles" a bit after it's struck.

I don't like to complain to my tuner too much coz he was very put out with me for not buying it from him.

Yes, my piano is like that...it's seriously out of tune and I'm getting it tuned in a few days time, before my exam. smile.gif
