Can anyone recommend any cheapish and easy to use musical notation software ?
I'm not wanting midi connection or the ability to play the music back.

Depends how much you're willing to spend. I have a really really good programme called Finale Printmusic 2006. It is approximately £60. I can thoroughly recommend it. smile.gif

I use lilypond for musical notation. It is open source software, so it is free. It is very flexible, but it does take a few minutes to learn how to use it. After spending some time learning it, I have found it fairly simple to use. You can get it here.

I use this one. Not badly priced, easy to learn, totally self formatting and great customer service.

Logic is good, but expensive. Does a lot more than just notation, it's the industry standard for composition and recording.

Finale Notepad is free to download isnt it?
I use Overture, which used to be free but now isnt...

I'm a composer myself, and have had a fair bit of experience with notation software...I think Sibelius is the best, but it is very pricey so I'm not sure this will help you.

Most packages do the job fairly well anyway!

I agree that sibelius is the best notation programme, but this is very pricey (however you can get a student version for about £120 compared to the approx £600 for the full version). However i am not very keen on sibelius 4. I much prefer 2 & 3.

Noteworthy is very easy to use, and very cheap. I like it a lot. Unfortunately, it doesn't read scanned music - so I guess it depends whether you need it to do that.

I use MagicScore Maestro for musical notation (powerfull tools, chord editor, playback editor, export to graphic files, virtual piano keyboard, virtual guitar fret, MusicXML import/export etc) only £30.
On developers site there are two cheaper versions, with excellent functionality, for this price. If guitar tools and export to graphic files not necessary - MagicScore Classic is very good choice for £23. MagicScore School has basic tools to work with with score (export/import and virtual piano keyboard, etc) price <£15.

Finale Notepad is completely free, so may be a good place to start. If you don't like it, you can invest in something better - if you do like it, you've saved yourself some cash smile.gif

Notation 2 is cheapish (compared to sebelius) and is a good program - quite fiddly - and takes a lot of getting used to. can be found in pc world i belive
