Sorry to hear it was a little boring for you today Car. Hopefully tomorrow will be more interesting. If all those loaves get thrown away you must have some HUGE pigeons around there!

REPORT: Friday 17th March 2006

Today, I was in the Production department. It was boring (more boring than yesterday), because there was nothing to do, apart from a bit of filing.

I also met a person who used to go to my school ten years ago, and he asked me things about the school (e.g. what is that new building being built, is Mr _____ still there). We had a good laugh and I shall ask my Geography teacher (one of the teachers he asked for) if he remembers him!

I got my loaf of bread today, and somehow, I got it free! I just got the receipt from the canteen, then went into the place where the bread is and the man just gave me the loaf I want! biggrin.gif

REPORT: Monday 20th March 2006

Today, I was in Customer Operations/Service, and it was a good day! I started off doing some filing (the same thing as Monday 13th), then I was allowed to use the computers (black screen with green writing). They kept me busy, which is good. There were quite a lot of staff absent today, so it was quieter than it usually is.

A green computer screen! Sounds like quite an old computer!

Time was when the only computers available publically were computers like the BBC Model B, which took 15 minutes to attempt to load a program, only to crash the moment you tried to start to play your game!

Glad your work experience is going well CE. I shall resist the temptation to write any more bread related puns!

REPORT: Tuesday 21st March 2006

Today, I was working in the Wages department, and it went very well. Firstly, I had to add up how much each employee of Allied Bakeries would get per week, and also take account of any time they might have been absent or been on holiday. Then, I had to sort out sheets of paper into order and I also went on the computer to print things out. Towards the end, as they couldn't think of anything else for me to do, I went into Custoner Operations/Admin/Computer Room (whatever you want to call it laugh.gif !) to do some more filing! rolleyes.gif

REPORT: Wednesday 22nd March 2006

In the morning, I got a visit from someone from the Governing Body, who wanted to see how I was getting on. I had a short interview and he asked me a few questions about the work experience.

Today, I was working in Field Sales Admin, and they sort out the deliveries for all the bread and they can also see where each of their lorries are on a piece of software. I was shown around the department, and was told how it works. One of the things I had to do is input data onto an Excel spreadsheet which shows the risk assessments for each delivery. I also had to fill in a Yes/No questionnaire for each route.

Cool! I think I was supposed to be spoken to when I was on work experience to make sure everything was ok, but it never happened!

computers (black screen with green writing).

Welcome to my world! I program screens which are like that. We can sometimes get white, blue and red text on screen - no different font sizes, styles etc, the best we can manage is upper or lower case.

I'm glad to hear that they're keeping you occupied, I've heard many people say that work experience was very, very boring as there was nothing to do most of the time.

Today, I was in Customer Operations (again), and I did the same things as Monday; filing, inputting data from the dockets onto the computer. I also got help with filling in some of the sections on my Work Experience diary.

Today, I was in Garage Admin, which is where the parts get ordered. I was shown around the department, and I was also shown how to order spare garage parts on the computer. At around 11:30, I had to leave because the people who I was working with had finished their shifts, which would have meant I would have been sitting around in the office doing nothing for the next four hours. It was a shame I had to leave so early on my last day, but never mind.

Talk about earning a crust!

Which department did you find potentially the most inspiring (given that for the most part due to lack of training time available they were only able to give you mundane tasks to do, and in reality it would probably be a lot less boring)?

Yes, I might consider it. It's seems like a very good place to work!

There are a number of departments I liked. They include:
  • Management Accounts
  • Field Sales Admin
  • Customer Operations
  • Wages
But if I had to choose, I would probably go for Customer Operations.
