Last night, my girlfriend took me to see a Gershwin Celebration performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It was so impressive. The only downside was the pianist for Rhapsody in blue was sick sad.gif but he was replaced. Just wondering if anyone has seen fantastic concerts lately of famous composers

Sounded good. I do like Gershwin's music!

I'm looking forward to getting hold of the Proms brochure for this year, and planning which Proms to see! Think there might be a bit of Mozart played there this year!
Bb Clarinet
wub.gif My favourite composer...

I've never seen any of his work performed live though
Deborah
I actually go to very few orchestral concerts outside of the Proms (I spend far too much pocket money at Covent Garden), but it sounds as though it was a good concert, shmoo. Glad that you enjoyed it.

Me too! It's out on 28th April or thereabouts. I know what some of the concerts are already, and have heard rumours from reasonably reliable sources about a few others. Plenty of Mozart and Shostakovich is a given; I'm hoping for a real Finzifest as it's the 50th anniversary of Finzi's death, and have resigned myself to a certain amount of Schumann, as it's the 150th anniversary of his death.

I saw Beethoven's 'Eroica' Symphony yesterday, which was very well performed. And I saw the Wurzles on Saturday, anyone heard of them?

If I can get to it I might even take the kids to the BBC Prom. It'll be the first time I'd have go to a Prom since Revd Dr D and I got married. Deborah isn't the only forumite to meet her husband in the Prom queue.
Deborah
Ashmoors, I think you mentioned it once.

jod, spot on! I think Drummond once described the Proms queue as one of the most sophisticated pick-up joints in London - you already have something in common with people around you even before you've met them.

Whats that then, that your mad enough to sit outside the Albert Hall all day waiting for a concert, or you both like similar music. The there's the Prommenaders drinking club, or the Prommers card school... I even got a lift back once wen the trains were on strike from a Prommer who turned out to have been at Cambridge at the same time as my Step-father.
