Well I'm feeling a little bit bored at the moment, so I thought I'd find out what choral pieces you all like, whether to listen to or sing...

Among my favourites are:

Ride The Chariot - by WH Smith!
My Spirit Sang All Day
Chatanooga Choo-Choo
Plenty Good Room - possibly also by WH Smith
Messa di Gloria
Nelson Mass
I was glad

Lots more, but I don't want to hog the space

Also, I have recordings of Berkshire Youth Choir singing some of these, which I may post:

Ride The Chariot
My Spirit Sang All Day
Chatanooga Choo-Choo
dcmbarton
That's really difficult - how do you choose! Few of mine below

Kyrie from the Durufle Requiem
Benedictus from Rutter's Mass of the Children
Missa Pange Lingua by Josquin
Salvator Mundi by Tallis

Like as the Hart and Take Him Earth for Cherishing by Herbert Howells
Stabat Mater by Pergolesi
O Lord of every shining constellation by Paul Leddington-Wright
Gloria from the Collegium Regale canticles by Herbert Howells
Evening Service for 4 Voices by Thomas Caustan

Byrd and Tallis - too many to list.

What excellent taste has been demonstrated so far! Favourites already listed include works I've sung, conducted and enjoyed.

My all-time favourite choral work has to be the Mozart Requiem, but the Bach B minor Mass gives it a run for its money. If I extended the list to include other the choral works I love I'd exceed the maximum permitted length for a post!

Ahhh lucky you!
Deborah
I'm singing it in July - can't wait!

I've sang many things in choirs, but my favourite all time one had to be Charpentiers Te Deum. It's great

I'd agree with you. It's a good fun work.

I love Haydn's Creation, Mahler 8, Faure Requiem, and the Mozart Requiem (of course), and the Rutter Requiem is gorgeous. The Missa Solemnis is one I should understand better, I prefer it to the Choral Symphony. As for a slightly more unusual taste, I like Robert Carver's 'O Bone Jesu'.

My favourites include the Poulenc Gloria, and Britten's Ceremony of Carols (upper voice version).

Ooo, some serious stuff there

Have now added recordings of some of the more light-hearted ones, hope you like...

My best choral memory is probably singing in a massed choir, in South Africa in the late 80's. We sang in Soweto, and among other things we sang Nkosi Sikeli'Africa. This was before the fall of apartheid, and it was a powerful experience.

I love singing 'He Trusted in God' and 'The Glory of the Lord' in The Messiah.

I sang a version of Quando Corpus Morietur years ago, and I can't remember who it was by, but it was fantastic to sing. It started of with the basses. I don't suppose, based on that, anyone knows what it was? It was great to sing, though!

Wow that must have been amazing. It's a beautiful piece - even without the emotional impact of being in a country with apartheid, it always moves me.

I am a fan of Svyati by Tavener. Oh, and I am the True Vine by Pärt is also good!
sarah-flute
I have Svyati on CD somewhere, haven't listened to it in a long time though.
