I've been given an award for getting the highest mark in this area in my Grade 8 piano (*blushes with embarrassment*). Not only is my teacher making a big fuss of me (wants to put an article in our local paper!), I 've also been invited to a prize-winners concert to receive my prize and to play for the invited audience!
Wow! I never though I'd ever do anything like this - I'm a bit of a closet pianist!
Anyone else been invited to this concert (Leeds, 30th April) or anything similar?

I'll probably play the Shostakovich Prelude and Fugue which I did for the exam itself (and got 29/30 for it).
I'll follow it with some Gershwin that I've been learning (possibly for diploma.....some day???)
Overall I didn't actually get distinction (I was 4 marks short), but apparently I still qualify as the highest scorer in this area in 2005 (so maybe no-one else took the exam..........)
Thanks for all your kind words...I still can't quite believe its happening!

Congratulations

.
YAP got invited to a high scorers concert in Leeds after his grade 8 too

. Unfortunately he couldn't make it to the concert itself

. Maybe you got the same prize he did.

Well I did the concert, and collected my prize! The Lloyd Hartley Memorial prize. It was all quite amusing, really - they talked about how wonderful it is to see such talented YOUNG musicians, and we were told to thank our piano teachers and our parents who pay for all our lessons.....but I'm in my FORTIES!!!! (all the other prize-winners were young enough to be my kids!!).
Apparently I'll get my name in the Annual Review too!
(And to think that I only went back to piano after a 25 year gap because I thought I should accompany my daughter in her flute exams.....)
