Hi, I am doing my grade 7 piano soon and i have 2 page turns at really awkward places. Does anybody know if u are allowed to use photocopies to save page turns if you have the original book that you bought with you? My teacher seems to think you are but ive seen things saying that you could be disqualifified if it is against copyright and considering it has that picture at the top of the page saying you cant photocopy will you be disqaulified?

Does anyone know if you can photocopy music to save you from having to page turn in the middle of a piece? My teacher says you can but i dont know if he is right because it does say you cannot use photocopies against copyright???

The ABRSM's word on this is in
These Music Exams (page 18 to save you having to find it!).

It is not illegal to make photocopies for 'private study' and so there is nothing wrong with having a photocopy of music that you also own a legal copy of.
I can't see any reason why you should not be allowed to use photocopies in exams - seems sensible if you really have problems with page turns.

Yes you are definately allowed to photocopy the difficult turns in an exam, but not reproduce the whole thing.

You can photocopy a page- I played the 6-page-long Moderato for my Grade 7 piano and the 4-page Elegiac Blues, both of which I had to photocopy pages for, to cope with awkward turns. The examiner really didn't seem to care, if he noticed at all.

Yes, it is allowed to photocopy part of the music for page turns. I can remember for my Grade 7 piano I had a piece which had an awkward page turn.
Alternatively if you have a lot of page turns within pieces you are allowed to bring someone into the exam as a page turner, but you need to seek permission to do so beforehand and you normally specify this when you are being entered for the exam on the form.

Yes you can use photocopies and I have done in a number of exams. But other things you could do is memorise a page of your piece so you don't need to turn or turn before you need to in an easy place and remember the bit up to the page turn. It does look better to do this.
