Is anyone else helping to plan the Y11 prom? Some how I think my school's is so much worse than other schools... ph34r.gif We have it in the school hall, which is kind of small...and we're deciding the colour schemes and working out music, food and costs and stuff at the moment. Too bad its on the 12th of May BEFORE exams....my friend has hers after...
nicki_flute
At my school (10-13), only year 13s have a Prom, and it is at this very expensive hotel and £30 a ticket...so it better be good. Even if yours isn't in the nicest of places, enjoy it, because it'll be a really good night smile.gif Stupid that it is before exams though.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
I think we have one in Y11 and Y13. The year 13 one looks really good, because its at the Hilton in town..biggrin.gif
Oddball
We're going to have it at a really nice golf club hall this time - usually it's in an old warehouse - really skanky.

So we thought we'd make a change, we're having it somewhere better! More expensive, £18 a ticket I think, but worth it!

And yeah I'm helping to plan it...
anakrron
The year council plans ours, and since I'm not in it... blah. I would've liked to take part though. We have proms at the end of Year 11 (in a hotel near Heathrow!) and one in Year 13 (boat cruise down the Thames). Should be fun, although the men in our year aren't terribly exciting ph34r.gif Plus, I have no idea where to get a dress that would fit me...
fluteandbassoon
at my school (years 10-13) we have a prom and/or a yearbook at the end of year 11. Our year will be the first year to have both. I think our prom is at the local university and will be about £10 a ticket. But it is not about spending loads of money though, it is abgout spending a good time with your friends that you have made and may not see again (as they are moving to a different college).
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Our tickets are looking to be around about £12 at the mo..my friends looks really good but is £40 blink.gif
A couple of us are petitioning hard and trying to get a jazz band if we can afford it, as some people just want a DJ which would just be like a glammed up school disco with everyone wearing pretty dresses. dry.gif

Good on you - just dont let the chavs get to you (they are being really horrible to the year eleven organisers at our school - because they dont like the choices that are being made)
Oddball
That's more a yearbook issue I think... They are there have been lots of tears shed....just because we didn't have the time or the energy to put a huge poll out to all the year group to see what everyone wants, we don't have the tiem to organise that, to collect everyone's votes. So the comittee decided between themselves, which cause uproar.

Still, I'm glad I got nominated for best boy personality biggrin.gif

Ours (Y11) is about £40 for a double ticket, and we're the first year group to have one cuz we're planning it ourselves. And we get a yearbook smile.gif Should be fun, but I can't afford a dress ohmy.gif And I prefer jeans...

Oh yeah, we have a live band, jazz I think.

Well, if other people couldn't be bothered to organise it then they can't really complain.

Oooh congratulations biggrin.gif
Oddball
Exactly. If they couldn't be bothered to join the comittee and make a difference, then they can't compliain. Which is what I told them. LOL.

Eeeek, still need to find a place to rent my tux byt the 18th May!
nicki_flute
You'll look nice in a tux. 18th May..you have 2 months!!
Oddball
Why thankyou! tongue.gif

Yeah... blink.gif

2 months till we leave school. ARGHHH!
nicki_flute
I know it is scary...alhough I didn't actually move, but moving schools at year 9 was scary.

I didn't even have a dress for my year 9 prom sad.gif
Chaos_91
Our new principal also banned formals (or proms if you wish to call them that), though the year 13's and 14's secretly planned them anyway laugh.gif Only year 12, 13 and 14 organise them, and I will say this knowing i will stick to my word, I am not going to go to my year's formal definately! They are all people who *hump with clothes on blink.gif*
Oddball
You have a year 14?? COOL!
nicki_flute
We have some year 14...i.e people who resit year 13 smile.gif

blink.gif...at least, I think so...
Boo Radley
Ah, have some good memories (and pictures) of mine. . . rolleyes.gif
anakrron
Oooh, me wants to see some pics! tongue.gif

I think you have Year 14s in N. Ireland, because you start early or something...?

I need to find somewhere to rent a tux for after our exams. We have ours in a big fancy hotel near Salford Quays I think. The tickets are £12 per person, after that the head teacher pays for it!! laugh.gif biggrin.gif

lol... I remember my Year 11 prom!!! I took a friend that I'd known at primary school who was reeeeeeally tall. lol. i'm really short so it was funny!

And them my Year 13 one... I also took a really tall guy... but this time I was actually going out with him!!!

It was a lot of fun, I've got lots of pictures of me and my schoolfriends that are all over my wall here at college, which is a nice reminder of people back home!!

Or maybe what England calls Reception Year, they call year 1? I don't know what Wales and Scotland do...

Well, my prom is on June 29th at a hotel in my town, I'm going with a boy in my year (just as friends) and I need to buy a dress! At our school, we have 'school officers' (head boy, head girl, deputy head boy and girl, boy's and girl's games captains and social secretary) who are nominated and voted for by the staff (I was nominated for head girl and social secretary but didn't get either of the jobs) and the social secretary organises the prom - she's doing a really good job. I think the tickets were £15.
crazy cow
we don't have a prom for the year 11 leavers - we just get glammed up, go to school in limos and then get dispatched to the science labs all day so we don't disturb lessons! laugh.gif no, seriously it was a great laugh - a bit too much of being stuck in classrooms, but at least we got to have a laugh with our mates biggrin.gif then we had a photographer taking proffessional group portraits of our groups of mates, and a leavers assembly. good day smile.gif
we get a 'ball' next year (yr 13 leavers)
recorderzrule
We had a party at a local hotel the night after our ROA.
We get a ball too next year (yr13) and we're all really looking forward to that! Should be great.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Woo! We had ours last night..it was SO GOOD...I mean, ok, the food was rubbish and the banner was rubbish, and they 'forgot' to make our chocolate fountain, but it was still loads better than we had thought!!

Was a bit like a glorified school disco, but everyone looked SO NICE!!! Ended up dancing for 3 hours (ouch), somehow all my 'unconfidence' kind of vanished and I got all hyper..lol

Took loads of pictures, we're going to 'pool' them all on msn tonight or on monday sometime...woo!

Only problem was with people's dates...there was this one guy who was badly fancied by 2 girls, though he only liked one of them (coincidentally the one who WASNT his date rolleyes.gif), but then went 'off' her and started dancing with my best mate, whose date was looking very sad and neglected, though they werent going out...and now I think I like her date...which is fine with her but I dont think he likes me...wacko.gif All got confuzzling

Don't know much about after prom party yet, didnt get invite because the girl hates me ph34r.gif We spent half the night worrying about people at it though...sad.gif Maybe we were paranoid...

Dunno why I'm typing all this...still feel hyper, kind of...having had no sleep ph34r.gif

Our prom's on the 28th of June, after the exams (this is the Year 11 one) and it's going to be at a hotel in town, and the tickets were £28! And I still have to buy a dress blink.gif Me and my friend are going shopping in half term, because we'll both have birthday money to spend then.
But we don't get to organise anything to do with it... I have no idea what the refreshments or decorations or anything are going to be.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Katy I'm so jealous! tongue.gif Ours was at school, though 6th form balls are at the Hilton in town...tix were £14 so that was ok...
Tip: Dont leave it too late...this girl only bought hers last weekend and ended up with a flowery bright orange thing that clashed with her pale skin sad.gif

Oooh... not nice. My friend apparently saw 'my' prom dress when she was shopping the other week, although how she instantly knew it would suit me while I wasn't actually there I don't know, but she assured me it would have... £135 from Monsoon blink.gif
anakrron
Hey, glad to know you had a good time CPPF biggrin.gif Ours is, as previously mentioned, on the 28th of June. I've got my prom dress already but I need to get some shoes... and a bag.. this is costing me so much money though, the tickets cost about £30 and plus my friend wants us to go in a limo there (which is another £50 or so!) do you think it'll be worth it? (hiring a limo I mean?) Everyone seems to be doing it.
july
My prom's next month and I don't have a dress! sad.gif or shoes - oh dear!
Nicola
My 6th year prom (6th year is the last year of High School in Scotland) is on the 24th June, I can't wait- it's in a really, really fancy hotel- The Balmoral for any Edinburgers out there- and I've got my dress, shoes and bag. A group of 8 of us are going in a limo together- should be amazing!

hmm...well isnt the whole point to 'stand out'? So if everyone else is going in a limo it won't be that special... unsure.gif I just came with friends and that was still cool...

Some people came in limos but not many.

These girls came in a minibus, and some others hired a double decker tourbus!!!! biggrin.gif

organist_katy
A group of my friends are hiring a limo... my closer friends, the ones I'm likely to turn up with, are probably just getting a taxi. The school is putting on a coach for it but I'm not travelling with all the people I know who are taking the coach!! huh.gif (If you knew my school, that would make more sense...)
nicki_flute
I didn't get anything special for my year 9 prom (here you change schools at end of year 9), but I want to make the year 13 prom really special...I mean it'll be the last time we're all together sad.gif
crazy_purple_piano_freak
They hired a masssive coach to take people from the prom to the after party...coz most of the year were going...
Saxophonist
we're having our prom here, our school pays for most of it aswell hehe!
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Nathan: *jaw drops open*....WOW!
hmm..well have fun dry.gif
