Full Version: Suggested Music Around Grade 7-8 Standard

I've decided to go on a bit of a spending spree and get some books of pieces to play (hopefully without breaking the bank). I was thinking of getting some from each period and already had in mind the WTC I or II and maybe a collection of Beethoven sonatas (if they won't be too hard unsure.gif ). I wondered if anyone had some ideas for Romantic and 20th Century music to add to that, around Grade 7-8 standard. Suggestions welcomed.
Daisy Duck
Chopin Preludes
Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues
Philip Glass Metamorphosis pieces (in Solo Piano book)
Bartok Mikrokosmos Book 6

Have a look here http://www.ukpianogroup.f9.co.uk/pt-gr-uk/...ials/grade7.htm and here http://www.ukpianogroup.f9.co.uk/pt-gr-uk/...ials/grade8.htm for pieces that have been set at that standard by ABRSM over the years.

Thanks

Spectrum Book 3, published by ABRSM, especially if you haven't already played much recent music. It's a collection of 25 pieces, commissioned and published just a few years ago, each one by a composer from a different country. Definitely won't break the bank. I think it costs around £10, which is less than 50p per piece! Enjoy!

Grovlez, Gabriel: L'Almanach aux Images

I love this book and am very plesed to see it coming up in more exams. I would to love to hear the full volume on CD.

I was introduced to it by my old Teacher when I asked for something modern, I remember him saying this is as modern as he taught.

The last piece is truly magical.

Musical riches! Are you planning to choose something from each to start on?

Try the Handel suites, they are gorgeous, and if you like counter-point really rewarding
