Hi Everyone

Please could those of you who claimed to be either a mezzo-soprano or an alto for the Leicester choir get in touch with me to let me know what the highest and lowest notes you are able to sing out loud are.

This is because you comprise half the choir at present ohmy.gif , and I may have to reorganise some of the parts to make the balance work.

Once I know your ranges, I'll make the final allocation of parts, and am happy to send a copy of the music to anyone who wants to get a bit of practice in before the day.

I have made a "katyjay chorus" version of the work - Elgar's "As Torrents In Summer" - which I have asked YAP to put on the Forumrecordings website, so you can have an idea of what we're going to try.

Cheers

Katyjay

katyjay, are you missing high voices or low voices? *confused*

Sarah, at the moment I have a huge number of altos relative to the rest. I need to decide whether anyone can move up or down, or whether I transpose the work up or down and split the alto section further to get the balance back. Hence my query.

I need you to sing soprano, though.

Right! Gotcha. Sorry, bit thick today! Soprano is fine! biggrin.gif

I'm definitely alto, I think! As I don't exercise my voice much I haven't got much of a range - probably from about G below middle C to the D or E an octave-and-a-bit higher than middle C (though at least I can sing in tune laugh.gif ). I can squeak out a couple of notes higher, but not comfortably! tongue.gif

Comfortably - G below middle C, to F on the top line of the stave. Does that help at all???

PS Congrats on the violin result K-J - well done smile.gif

Thanks Andrea

Pretty much the same as Jo - except I can't pomise to sing in tune sad.gif I'm happy to drop out if it will help the balance (and overall musical effect)...

Thanks, Willobie. Dropping out isn't an option though - I need all the voices I can get smile.gif

G below middle C to the d an octave above middle C. I can't promise I'll be in tune though... sad.gif

Don't even think of dropping out, willobie! There's safety in numbers! laugh.gif

OK - I'm probably too quiet to make much difference either way... smile.gif

Hi Katy

Highest note - comfortably for choral a G at the top of the stave.
Lowest comfortable note - C or B flat at the bottom of tenor range.

And I'm pretty loud, lol!

Fantastic. I've got a gorgeous bit of second alto specially for you! Lots of lovely deep notes!

I am probably the same. I never sing, but I definitely couldn't sing a soprano part.

Why did I say I'd do this ph34r.gif

It'll be good sight singing practice for me. What is the music like? I am sure your conducting skills are fab!! Much better than my singing then, at any rate!

This will be my fourth ever attempt at conducting people. So we all get to learn together...... ph34r.gif

Is this for the Leicester forums concert on April 22nd? I'll help out on the day with pleasure - subject to husband being prepared to run our, um, viewing venture. At the risk of sounding immodest, I can sing pretty much any female part and can sight sing and I know the piece anyway (though not the arrangement). Four years in the Huddersfield Choral Society should be a good preparation for this tongue.gif

I'll do the recorder ensemble too, subject to the same caveat.
