I started piano at 5ish. I started playing the recorder when i was 8 but when i reacher 12 i started clarinet and reached grade 4 in a year! I started guitar when i was 8 and singing when i was 13 because i enjoyed acting and theatre and wanted to make sure i was singing 'correctly' when i had to play various parts. The funniest thing for me was that fact that the only person in my family who was musical was my great-grandad who played the spoons and sung folk songs

I also believe he has CDs on amazon
Enjoy yourselves,

I don't really remember when I started taking lessons for playing the piano. I think I was in 4th grade, which would make me about 9 years old at the time. I learned to play the flute in junior high (I guess I was 11 years old). Played for 3 years and stopped when I graduated.
I stopped taking piano lessons a little while after I started, because it was an informal thing anyway. Then I started taking lessons again, switched instructors twice (made me hate practicing cuz I never knew what the instructors expected from me), and stopped again for four more years (during high school, because by that time I was hating it so much). Now I've started taking lessons again (college, because I taught myself Fur Elise and decided I enjoyed playing the piano after all, and because my parents finally agreed to buy me a REAL, MECHANICAL piano

).
Until now, none of my instructors were giving me formal lessons. I want to take the grade 5 practical soon, though my current instructor tells me that, looking at the songs, I could probably take the grade 6 if I didn't have to take Theory first. I don't know why I'm bothering with the test, but I guess it'll be fun since nothing really rides on it except my ego. lol
I have never learned theory and I only know the major scales (no arpeggios, no minor scales, no chromatic scale, no aural, no sight-reading...). If I want to make the October exam, I have lotsa work to do.
Wish me luck! lol

Piano, 5; clarinet, 11; violin, 37.
I started piano when I was 7, I'm now 15 and am doing grade 8 in November.
I started the cello when I was 13 and I'm doing grade 4 in novemeber aswell.
I started the harp when I was 9 but I'm not sure what grade I am, maybe about 6.
I used to play the descant and bass recorders; the glockenspiel, metalaphone n xylophone in an orchestra; and the steel pans in a group.
I realllllllly want to play the violin but I don't have enough time or money

Hi,
I started the violin at 8, the piano at 11, the organ and voice at 14. These are just a few of the Western instruments that I can play. I also play a number of world musical instruments, such as the Japanese
koto and Thai
Khong wong yai. I think from this you can see that I am obsessed with learning instruments.

Can you really play all instruments well? If I were you, I'd never been able to give enough practice time to each instrument!

I walked into the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool when I was 4, pointed to the Organist and said "I want to do that." My parents bought me a bontempi Organ and i've not looked back ever since.
Only last year (30 years old) did I decide to learn how to play the Piano and take examinations. I did some Organ Examinations when I was in my teens along with Theory - upto Grade 4 but due to leaving school and getting a job I had to give up my music education. Its only in the past 3 or 4 years that I have gone back to doing my Theory Grades again (now at Grade 8) with the same Teacher I had when I was a teen.
Throughout my life things have made me smile or sad, Music has always made me smile and picked me up when I was feeling sad.

Craig

Just curious... because... I started when I was about 4

I started singing when I was about 2 (and still haven't shut up), piano at 5 and 'cello at 12. I still play the piano and sing, and I recently picked up my 'cello again after a gap of about 20 years. I'm having great fun with it and am looking to take my grade 8 next year.
