Can I use vaseline as joint grease on an ABS plastic recorder?
Suepea
While vaseline won't damage your plastic recorder, it doesn't work as well as the joint grease sold for this purpose, which should be available at any music shop which sells plastic recorders. If you're having difficulty tracking some down, try Dolmetsch Recorders - on line at www.dolmetsch.com Hints for care: Remove build-up of old grease with a light squirt of WD40 and keep your recorder washed out with diluted warm washing up liquid (don't dry the inside - leave to drain). Use the cleaning stick supplied - I put a small silk handkerchief in the slot, which doesn't leave any fabric bits. A feather works well for keeping the mouthpiece and airway clear of build-up.
