Full Version: What Does The 'warn Level' Mean?

Can someone explain?

On Sunday (I think) there was a 'naughty' spam message on the General Music Forum and I suggested that since this forum was supposed to be family and kid-friendly, the moderators should end this thread.

I've just noticed that I have a 20% Warn level dating from Monday at 8am for 'inappropriate content'. I absolutely agree.

But... is this Warn thing to show us when we've alerted the forum about unwanted posts? I'd always thought it was to warn the poster about THEIR inappropriate post.

It is when you've done something bad. Click on it and there should be a comment explaining, otherwise ask a mod.

The comment only says 'inappropriate content' which, I assume, refers to the inappropriate thread I was complaining about and has since been removed.

The person's name is LCleverdon, a 'Newbie'.

Obviously pressed the wrong button! laugh.gif

If you can't remember posting anything 'inappropriate', then it might be a mistake and worth popping off a message to the mods. Since your posts under being pre-moderated, it can't have been anything too bad wink.gif

Edit: what was that last sentence? Since your posts aren't being pre-moderated... rolleyes.gif

I'd be inclined to ask her. You should get an explanation when you're given a warning. Are you sure it was for that thread?

Have any of your posts elsewhere been edited or deleted by mods recently? If you don't see any reason to have an 'innappropriate content' message then you should definitely ask. Just PM whichever mod it was.

I think so. When someone posts a message that is rude, offends or may be misinterpreted, usually there are plenty of people who will notice and say something, so it becomes obvious.

Probably just a newbie moderator mistake. cool.gif

I seem to recall that name as belonging to someone in the Marketing Dept. Her name was on something that came to me for an ABRSM seminar. I'd "PM" her and ask.

She's not a newbie moderator, by the way, she's been one for ages. I expect the newbie 'status' comes from having a low post count.

In the thread title you have said Sunday, but in your post you have said Monday, so I am not sure which you mean, but on Sunday morning at 7:57 you posted the following:

QUOTE
Er, you are being sarcastic..aren't you?

Steve

to my comment about homophobic prejudice annoying me.

I don't know if this is what the moderators are referring to.

No, the 'Warn' dates from 8am on Monday, so I assume that it was from a post on Sunday.

Re. that particular post, if you remember, my critiscism was about tabloids and the way in which they've changed the meanings of words.

Er..by the way, ohmy.gif sorry, but your original post said 'The one thing that annoys me the most is homophobia', NOT 'homophobic prejudice' which of course is completely different. The former is a state of mind, the latter is the person's behaviour, which, as I said in the other posts, is unacceptable! mad.gif

I thought that much was clear from the thread. If for one second I'd been impolite, I think most of the others would have been quick to point it out. I hope so! huh.gif

Yes I saw that 'homophobic prejudice' was a more accurate description of what I meant in the first place, and have decided to use that phrase instead to avoid confusion. The post that I referred to was made on Sunday, so it may well be the post that the moderators mean if they misinterpreted it like I did.

Well, the end of the story? Just had a very nice email from the moderator involved. I was right. It was a bit of a mix up from the 'naughty' thread on Sunday that I said should be deleted.

So Warn level back to 0%, I don't have to stand in the corner or have detention or lines or a letter home to my parents. wink.gif
