What do you prefer to do ... practical , theory or composing?

This was a discussion in my music class today and everyone seemed to prefer practical.... although practical is fun (and if you play percussion sometimes stress relieving biggrin.gif ) I love the feeling and emotion that you can put into composing.

So that is my question!

Definitely practical. Then theory, can't compose!

Depends on my mood. Composition I dislike usually, theory often, and I think I will hate practical practice until I start doing it smile.gif So I spose

1. Practical
2. Theory
3. Composition

Although actually, if I was forced to do either theory or comp, I wouldn't be that bothered...really depends on my mood.

I love all really. Practical is great fun plus you can put your emotions into it, if you know what i mean?? Theory is good to know so you have all the knowledge and composing is great for letting out all your emotions! Even though i'm not amazing at it but hopefully i'll get better. . .

Practical - then theory - and composition way down there, because I am rubbish at it.

Composition is loads of fun, although I never want to show anyone anything that I write, because it's usually utter rubbish. But theory exams are the least stressful. It depends.... in terms of exams I prefer theory because you can take your time, and practical puts you on the spot. But of course in everyday life practical is much more fun.

I hate theory sooooooooo much!

1. Theory
2. Practical
3. Composition.

If I get something wrong when I'm playing I get really frustrated and know I could play better where as with Theory I can just cross it out and do it again. Composition... I can take or leave smile.gif

Practical, theory and I cant compose to save my life tongue.gif

I like performance best (although at school it usually involves a competitive sprint down the stairs to get a piano, or a fight with some second year who wants to play the drums noisily in my practice room while I play). Composition is fun as long as the inspiration keeps flowing, but Sibelius has a habit of crashing in our school computer suite so spend a lot of time switching the computer off and on again. Have to be in the right mood for theory although it can give you a feeling of achievement when you actually get a lot done.
