Heylo guys need some advice about flute playing please. I have adopted a flute until the end of the summer, my music teaching friend didn't need it and I've been desperate to try playing the flute for god knows how long, its a Jupiter de Medici - no idea if its a good flute to start on, but Nick warned me that I'd prob fall in love with it within the first few days!

Anyhoo finally getting to the point, I can play D,C,B,Bb,A,G and on a good day F, but I seem to have developed the bad habit of whistling occasionally whilst playing the notes! So I find that when playing a C I also tend to whistle the same note! HELP!

I did wonder if it was cos I've been playing sax/clari for so long? Maybe my embouchure just isnt up to flute playing?

You'd probably be best to get the someone who plays flute to give you a couple of lessons to make sure you are playing it right as it's really easy to get into bad habits when you first start.

if u dont want to have lessons from a teacher, try looking in a mirror, you should know the basic shape of the lips. i did have the same problem, but it just sort of... vanished!
