Hey, I'm looking at the first movement of the 2nd sonata (Eb), & don't know how fast it should go? It says allegro amabile, which i think means fast & friendly , but does anyone know a crotchet= tempo?
Thanks JOnathan

I did this for grade 8, great piece. Checking with the metronome I think between crotchet=96-104 sounds reasonable. By the way, if you plan to do this for an exam make sure you know a very good pianist. I can't begin to say how much trouble I had finding one who could play it!

I'd translate that as 'quickly and pleasantly'.
Neil's covered the rest of your enquiry very well.
It's a lovely piece, good luck with it!

I love the Brahms! I havn't played the 1st movement in much detail yet though. I agree with neil.clarinet for his tempo advice.

I've got a slot in a chamber concert in about a month, & can do a piano or clarinet piece, & I thought about doing the brahms. I think I know who will be accompanying, & she's VERY good, but I'm not sure! I've been practising it at crotchet = 120, so thats a rellief that it goes abit slower

Just make sure that you get the music to her very soon, as from what my clari teacher has said the piano part is very hard, and even the best of pianists will need some time to get their fingers round it.

Hey, What speed does the 4th movement of the the Fm sonata go at? I've read somewhere that it speeds up at the end, but what is the initial crothet = marking?
