I wondered if anyone has done the trinity first performance certificate... I was vaguely thinking about it as something to work towards whilst not having the pressure of technical work and supporting tests, which I work on anyway but are just a bit too much for me at the moment in an exam situation (do my nerves in and stress makes me ill anyway!)

Has anyone done one? I understand it's supposed to be "G5+" ish? Is there any own choice repertoire or is it all off the syllabus? What was it like? Etc etc!

Just looked at the clarinet version and it look slike the concert certificate is around grade 5/6 level (a lot of the pieces on it are on the grade 5 abrsm syllabus), and the performers certificate looks around grade 8 (maybe slightly higher). Looks to be a good exam to do if you don't want the supporting tests.

It's not so much that I mind the supporting tests, but trying to prepare scales and worry about sight-reading along with an exam is just waaaaaaaaaay too much for me at the moment. So I wonder if this would be a good alternative "for the time being", and good exam experience... I should look at the PC too, see what pieces are on it, but I think it's probably still a bit beyond me right now.

What instrument? Flute? I was looking at the viola syllabus and some of the pieces look interesting, not that I've played any of them (but I know you have - ie. the Largo and Allegro from Telemann's Viola Concerto).

Yes, flute - not sure I'd be brave enough on the viola just at the moment. Would be interesting to look at the syllabus though, good though smile.gif
