Wonder if anyone is/knows a clarinet teacher not too far from the Tameside area?
Was thinking of maybe fortnightly lessons and initially looking to take up the grade 1 challenge in November/December session.

Have you tried your local library for lists of teachers? Often teachers put their names up there, so I'd enquire if I were you.

Do you have a local music service you could contact sbhoa? I don't know Manchester, but if it's anything like London, I assume most of the local authorities in Manchester have their own music service, perhaps there's someone there who could help.

Not thought of that... there is a well established military band locally so that could be worth trying if the music shops have no one suitable.

I was thinking 'military' as in 'army/navy etc.' rather than the sort of wind band in that link, but even so, there are likely to be some fine clarinettists there, judging by the programmes on that website. I think it is well worth going to one of their concerts, and asking whether any of their members teach. Wind bands will have more clarinettists in them than anything else, most likely, so it is a rich source of talent.

Don't think I'd end up playing in that band though.... might tell you the history behind that if you remind me at Leicester.

Yes, please do sbhoa, I'll endeavour to remember! It's got a long history that band, rather longer than the wind bands I'm in!
