Hi folks

I don't know if any of you remember this from last year?

Well, this year I'm one of the participants - today! We've just received the draw and I'm the very last pupil at 8.30 pm. However, there are going to be more workshops this time (e.g. some Alexander Technique demonstrations), so the whole day will run from 12 noon until 9 pm.

Sanni Luis, the teacher for this class, gave a stunning concert last night, singing Eponine and Evita and some Barbra Streissand and tons of other stuff.

I'm really looking forward to it. Last year, in the evening session, everyone had prepared "Memory" from Cats as one of their works, so she made all the pupils, and interested members of the audience, do a group session on it - all crawling round the stage and singing while pretending to be cats! I wonder what she'll do this time!

I'm going to take two works for my session - "Blues In The Night" which was part of my LTCL recital yesterday, and "You Can't Get A Man With A Gun" from my Wild West adventure earlier this year.

If I've got enough energy left, I'll let you know tomorrow how it went.

Cheers

Sounds great, katyjay.. Where was it held? Do you think you could post details, please - I think quite a few of us would be interested in future courses.
Thanks

Hi folks

The masterclass was at the United Church in Egham (which was the venue for the Adult Learners' Concert back in February).

There were twelve pupils taking part, each getting half an hour of tuition from Sanni. She's a marvellous teacher, very patient and supportive.

What she was primarily focusing on wasn't how to "belt", although she touched on that with all of us. Instead, she was looking with us at how to become a character, how that character would act or react in a scene, getting us to move away from being ourselves singing a song to being someone sharing their thoughts onstage. For me, that ended in my singing "Blues in the Night" slumped on the floor at the base of a pillar with a cigarette in one hand and a gin bottle in the other! About as far from my previous performance of the work (in my LTCL exam on Friday) as you could possibly get.....and definitely a far more "bluesy" sound as a result (except when I got the giggles).

And we had a couple of sessions of Alexander Technique with a local practitioner, in which the whole audience as well as the pupils could participate. These have given me a lot to think about - particularly with respect to posture and breathing, and I suspect that one of the lasting results from the day for me is going to be that I start taking Alexander lessons.

Sanni has said she's prepared to do this again next year. If anyone is interested, they can PM me for more details.

Cheers
