Hi All,

Can someone recommend me some books/etudes for development of the (lower) altissimo register on clarinet (tone and intonation)? I really need to work on it, otherwise I think my parents will kick me out soon tongue.gif

Thanks!

First of all, I'll say that if your embouchure isn't totally secure, you're using reeds that aren't in good shape, and/or you're not supporting your notes with lots of diaphragm, then you'll struggle with the altissimo register. The altissimo register needs lots of diaphragm support! And don't resort to 'biting', it doesn't help in producing good notes.

Try some of the later studies in book 2 of '80 Graded Studies for Clarinet' (Davies and Harris), also Pamela Weston's '50 Classical Studies for Clarinet'. But do make sure that first of all, you can get long, beautiful notes on altissimo C#- F.

I'd also recommend a little book called 'Clarinettist's Advanced Technique Doctor' (Dr. Downing Music), which has loads of useful advice, plus a number of very useful exercises!

Good luck!
