Hey,
I'm playing in a Chamber Concert the week after we go back to school, so have'nt got long to choose a piece to play. I was gonna do Allegro Amiable from the Brahms Sonata in Eb, but if the accompanyist cant play the piano part, I need a back-up plan.
Can anyone suggest any other pieces I could maybe play (of gd7-8 standard)- I'd be willing to buy something else, & can practise for hours if needs be!! tongue.gif tongue.gif
thanks

Consider the Brahms Op 120 No 1 (piano accompaniment is easier!) or one or two of the Finzi Bagatelles.

The Finzi Bagatelles are good pieces! (although only the Fughetta is grade 8 standard, the others are easier)

You could also try some of the Lutoslawski Dance Preludes, or the Malcolm Arnold Scherzetto that's on the current grade 8 syllabus.

You could also always do the Adagio from the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. I know it's listed by the AB on the grade 6 syllabus, but it's a gorgeous piece of music!

And I can imagine is one of those pieces that, although it's possible to play it at that level, one could go back to it over and over for years and find more in it, put more into it, and play it more beautifully smile.gif

The Poulenc Romanza is beautiful to play. Also there is the Busoni Elegie and Pierne Canzonetta.

I get complaints from accompanists when I play those though....
At least with concertos, aside from the tutti bits all the piano has is " plonk-plonk plonk-plonk plonk-plonk plonk-plonk......"
