Just wondered if anyone knew roughly what level the team brass book will take you to (in terms of grades). I've just finished working through it, and expected to start grade 1 pieces, but am finding them much much easier than the pieces I'd been playing in the tutor book, so was trying to guage what level of music to get in now.

Just giving this a little bump... My local music shops don't stock much trombone music, so I need to order online, and it's a bit difficult to do that without knowing what grade to aim at. If anyone can help, I'd be SO grateful.

My son started on team brass on trumpet at school he managed about 2/3 of the way through never completed the book but took grade 2 and got high honours after about 6 months of lessons. This was his 2nd instrument and he was 9 at the time. I hope this helps you a bit.
As for sitting exams he always sat Guildhall exams but all the syllabus changes at the end of the year so beware if you choose from the current syllabus.
Check out trombone music on ebay, I buy nearly all my kids music off ebay as it is alot cheaper and hardly used, get more for less usually.

Hi Meerkat.
I've just received a catalogue from Boosey and Hawkes. To quote them - the Boosey Woodwind and Brass Method provides everything you need ... from beginners to Grade 3.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks Allanah
I spoke to my teacher yesterday. She reckons I'm playing at about grade 3 / 4 level. But the problem I'm having transferring from team brass to other music is that team brass is heavily oriented towards key signatures based on flats. Sharps are still a bit of a mystery to me I'm afraid!

I expect it's entirely geared towards people who will do nothing but play in brass or wind bands. The trombone is particularly versatile, with a place in both of those plus orchestras, chamber music and jazz, but to exploit that you do need to come to terms with sharps. Enjoy!

I'm not sure about Team Brass, but if it's anything like Team Woodwind (I regularly use this as a tutor book for my pupils), then it will get you to about grade 3-ish standard.
