I have taken flute grades 1,2,3,4,5,6 and my grade 5 theory and I have passed them all. I think on grade 1 I got 112 because I had a really bad teacher! Most of my other results have been 120-130 but my theory was 91%!

Or maybe its just that unless you are particularly gifted then that is very young to be taking that grade...

I must be getting good at translating terribly written posts, because that almost made sense to me:
A lot of us will just do Grades 5 and 8, because it's our second instrument. Personally, if I took up another instrument, i'd take grades 4,6, and 8, but that's my preference.
Genrally though, you can skip whatever you want. You can't however skp straight to grade 6, as you need your theory, and theory is hard unless you have practical experience, as theory is learnt through playing more than reading.

Grade 5 is the essential exam that u need to do in order to do higher levels
lets say ppl who excel quite fast, do not need to do th lower grades because they can handle the higher grades....and time will not be wasted..
for me, i just decided recently that i want to go to music school
and i havent done any exams or watsoever
so i need to do grade 5 flute next year coz i think most colleges accept a minimum of grade 5 and thats whati want to major in...
referring to the first post, i havent failed any because i havent taken any! both theory and practical lol!
am taking it next year

Hello!
I failed Grade 8 piano in 1995, but this was the best thing that could have happened to me because I realised that just having perfect pitch and an enormous handspan is not everything. The real test is whether people can bounce back from failing.
Best wishes
Hugh

Hi Amati.
Shou;d find out shortly.
LCM usually send out the reports within a couple of weeks and the certs follow later.
I think I did ok. I was soooo nervous and the examiner was so understanding !
He just spoke very calmly and told me not to panic and calm down. Then he let me start my first piece again.
He was so sweet ! Must've took pity because I was the only adult amongst all the school kids !
I shall let you know when I get the report.
Good luck with yours. Let us know how you do.

I've taken 2 clarinet, 2 theory, 3 piano and 2 violin, so 9 in total and I haven't failed once! I've got 3 exams in the coming session grade 5 theory and viola and grade 4 violin, and there is no doubt about the fact that I'll fail the violin, it might help if I practiced it once in a while, but oh well.

In case any of you might find this heartening, when you receive a disappointing exam result - I failed my Grade 7 piano (96 marks) and then scraped through at the second attempt - and now music is my passion and I do nothing but teach it to children and adults.
I believe it's what I've been put on this planet to do - and I wouldn't be the teacher I am today if I hadn't had those early bad experiences and failures...

Nice thought Cyrilla.
I've yet to fail an exam but I've failed one piece once (a real disaster and now I will never ever again play Mozart in an exam~ just to bo on the safe side!) and then there was my Grade 7 aurals, but that was 'only' by two marks, although I'm told you get 7 for any attempts so I guess I can't draw much hope from that! (and I think I only got the ten due to a couple of lucky guesses that coincidently turned out to be right!)
Doesn't bode well for Grade 8 when I'd really like to get a merit (I think a destinction is way beyong my grasp unless a miracle happens between now and Christmas!) still I'm suposed to be being optomistic...
