i have never failed an exam i'm gt 112 on grdae 5 flute but i've neva failed a piano exam! my cousin gt 101 though!
nicki_flute
I have taken flute grades 1,2,3,4,5,6 and my grade 5 theory and I have passed them all. I think on grade 1 I got 112 because I had a really bad teacher! Most of my other results have been 120-130 but my theory was 91%!
liebe_klavier
failed once... when i was 7 or 8 and i was doing my grade 4 piano... i practised so hard...but the reason i failed was my teacher...she was the worst teacher i've ever had.. wink.gif

So in other words, you failed the only exam you've taken, or you've taken 2 and passed one, failed one?

Or maybe its just that unless you are particularly gifted then that is very young to be taking that grade... dry.gif

I must be getting good at translating terribly written posts, because that almost made sense to me:

A lot of us will just do Grades 5 and 8, because it's our second instrument. Personally, if I took up another instrument, i'd take grades 4,6, and 8, but that's my preference.

Genrally though, you can skip whatever you want. You can't however skp straight to grade 6, as you need your theory, and theory is hard unless you have practical experience, as theory is learnt through playing more than reading.

Grade 5 is the essential exam that u need to do in order to do higher levels

lets say ppl who excel quite fast, do not need to do th lower grades because they can handle the higher grades....and time will not be wasted..

for me, i just decided recently that i want to go to music school
and i havent done any exams or watsoever

so i need to do grade 5 flute next year coz i think most colleges accept a minimum of grade 5 and thats whati want to major in...

referring to the first post, i havent failed any because i havent taken any! both theory and practical lol!

am taking it next year tongue.gif

phoebe
I failed grade 6 and 8... got 95 for both exams.. but d 2nd time I took gr 8 I got a merit! 120 just nice.. biggrin.gif

Are you people competing about who is going to do worst???? huh.gif

Hello!

I failed Grade 8 piano in 1995, but this was the best thing that could have happened to me because I realised that just having perfect pitch and an enormous handspan is not everything. The real test is whether people can bounce back from failing.

Best wishes

Hugh

Hi Amati.

Shou;d find out shortly.

LCM usually send out the reports within a couple of weeks and the certs follow later.

I think I did ok. I was soooo nervous and the examiner was so understanding !

He just spoke very calmly and told me not to panic and calm down. Then he let me start my first piece again.

He was so sweet ! Must've took pity because I was the only adult amongst all the school kids ! laugh.gif

I shall let you know when I get the report.

Good luck with yours. Let us know how you do.

Yeah you're right!

I also have very good pitch and big n flexible hands... but I also failed my grade 8, because I didn't work hard enough for it. but I got a merit d 2nd time i took grade 8, although i failed my sight reading..tongue.gif
Pink Piano
I havnt failed an exam...yet, But ive come very close to failing one!
By 1 mark!!!!!
My Theory exam results should come soon, and Im expected to have failed them..sooo, theres a first time for everything i suppose
pianist64
I've never failed anything on my sax, clarinet, flute or piano either!
BachViolin

Trisha
I havent yet got the confirmation of the fact that i failed my grade 4 violin exam but i'm pretty positive i have failed it!! i dont think i've EVER had an exam that went worse thant that one!! I never thought it was possible to mess up EVERY aspect of the exam but obviously it is, as i found out today!! sad.gif
amati
Hi Trisha, I thought that with my grade 3, but I got 102. I know I made mistakes on my grade 4, especially on B2 Ballet music, and my signt reading, not to mention sight singing, but I'm sure you did alright smile.gif

tremolololo
0 fails out of 3 including music theory.

~tremolololo~
Katet
I have never failed a grade, and ive done 9 music exams (including gr 5 theory)
James Brookmyre
never once failed, i take it you have thats why your asking, but a few yeasr back i was teaching a lady who was 54 and had no musical knowledge at all, after 6 months of tuition with me i got her a pass for grade 1 and she received a mark of 100!
isabelsmells
I've taken 2 clarinet, 2 theory, 3 piano and 2 violin, so 9 in total and I haven't failed once! I've got 3 exams in the coming session grade 5 theory and viola and grade 4 violin, and there is no doubt about the fact that I'll fail the violin, it might help if I practiced it once in a while, but oh well.
Trinity
I have taken 15 exams and not failed one! come close but not failed!
Cyrilla
In case any of you might find this heartening, when you receive a disappointing exam result - I failed my Grade 7 piano (96 marks) and then scraped through at the second attempt - and now music is my passion and I do nothing but teach it to children and adults.

I believe it's what I've been put on this planet to do - and I wouldn't be the teacher I am today if I hadn't had those early bad experiences and failures...
tamsin
Nice thought Cyrilla.

I've yet to fail an exam but I've failed one piece once (a real disaster and now I will never ever again play Mozart in an exam~ just to bo on the safe side!) and then there was my Grade 7 aurals, but that was 'only' by two marks, although I'm told you get 7 for any attempts so I guess I can't draw much hope from that! (and I think I only got the ten due to a couple of lucky guesses that coincidently turned out to be right!)

Doesn't bode well for Grade 8 when I'd really like to get a merit (I think a destinction is way beyong my grasp unless a miracle happens between now and Christmas!) still I'm suposed to be being optomistic...

Now all you need to do is fail a Bach exam and you'll miss out on 2 of the best composers in history?
