Hi all, to cut a long story short, I eventually want to become an RCM examiner. One of the requirements is to have a Bachelors of Music or equivalent. Does anyone know what that entails? How many years of study? How much $$? What kind of courses you take? ect?? Thanks in advance.

A typical BA takes three years, but in some places (e.g. scottish unis) there's an extra year for honours. Cost will vary slightly now because of top up fees. But I'd allow at least 3000 a year for fees.

Same for a BMus in most places. Cost will vary depending on household income etc.

If you are asking about Canadian Universities I don't think that there are too many regular posters from your part of the world on here.

Yes, I was thinking that too. In the UK a BMus is either 3 or 4 years of full-time study, or, where part-time study is available, something like 7 years of part-time study.

Most specialist music colleges/conservatoires in the UK have a four year BMus, where as an ordinary university is usually three years. Specialist music colleges tend to focus on performing careers, whereas a regular university usually offers a more diverse range of specialist options, for example music therapy or performing arts administration.

If you are interested in becoming an examiner, then performance would need to be a major part of your BMus course.

I'm in the US and will be beginning work on a Bachelor of Music degree next Fall. Here it usually takes 4 years, sometimes 5 especially if you do a music education degree. Are you planning on attending a regular university or a music college/conservatory? As far as cost goes that would depend on which school you attend and if you receive any scholarships.
