I am doing my grade 5 theory soon and I am working through past papers and I am coming up against some things which are not in my AB books (as far as i can see) There is a question that needs put onto short score It contains three treble clefs and one bass clef. On one of the treble clefs it has a small 8 under it (meaning it sounds an octave lower than it is written?) any way does this mean i can write that line in the bass clef? This would mean i would have two of the parts in bass and two in treble is this ok? I hope i made sense thanks for any help,Mike.

Yes that's exactly what you have to do! As you said the treble clef with the eight below it does read an octave below, so you can easily write it in bass clef. On one stave (treble clef) you'll have the two treble parts, and the second stave (bass clef) the treble an octave lower with stems facing up, and the bass clef with stems facing down. Hope this confirms what you said. Good luck with your exam, i'm sure it will be fine. smile.gif

Try to get hold of something like a hymn book with conventioal 4 part harmony in it.
This is what the short score should look like.
