Full Version: Oh No! Dent! :( :( :(

I just managed, through an extremely stupid and annoying set of circumstances, to put a little dent into my flute... Waahhhhhhhhhh!

Fortunately it's quite low down the tube (I'm thinking/hoping that that should mean it has left of an effect...?) - it's just above the level of the 2nd trill key... unfortunately it's definitely made a dent into the inside of the tube (I can feel it, albeit only a little) - will this affect how it plays a little? ie should I book it in for a service sooner rather than later or should I just get it sorted when it next goes in to be looked over?

Argh. Really annoyed, esp with the concert coming up - I need all the help I can get, and what I have got is a dent.... sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Apparently: Dents (metal flute). Small dents on the body will have almost no effect, but dents on the head joint can cause tuning problems.

You looked it up! Bless you!

OK, well I'm still miffed but at least it shouldn't cause any probs...

Well, I couldn't have you getting more worried by the second about your dented flute sad.gif smile.gif Maybe someone could have a look at it on Sat smile.gif

I can't see that a very small dent in the body of your flute will cause you many problems Sarah. Give your flute some exercise, if it plays OK, then you could wait 'til after Leicester to get it seen to. smile.gif
sarah-flute
I won't be able to get it seen to before Leicester anyway, so it doesn't make too much difference on that score. Just wasn't sure if it was necessary to get it seen to sooner rather than later. I *think* it plays OK, it's me I'm worried about for Sat! ohmy.gif At least it'll be my limitations and not the flute's. Poor thing....

Nicki, you're a star biggrin.gif

I know that feeling. Even if it still plays properly, you're still annoyed at yourself that you dented it. I get so angry at myself if I scratch my clari, so you must feel the same denting your flute.

Well, it's your flute. How does it play?

If you don't have one already, you could buy a small electronic tuner. They cost approx between 10 - 15 pounds. Great for keeping an eye on pitch changes when you're experimenting.

...or making dents! rolleyes.gif

Don't worry though. Dents are easily fixed. It's the dent to your wallet that really hurts! ohmy.gif

I have a cold, so it's hard to tell at the moment how much is me and how much is the flute.
