Is it me or are they easy ? I've bought Grades 6 and 7 selected piano exam pieces and virtually sight-read the whole of the A list in both books without too much difficulty. The B + C lists look a lot harder though.
What do you think ?

Yea thats what i found it when i got it .I have the problem with never really studying a piece properly because i can just sight read it although my teacher goes mad with me and makes me add the small details and then makes me memorise! Not fair! Just because she is really good at memorising she expects me to be as well!

I get bored and sometimes get out my grade 1-5 exam books and sightread them...obviously playing grade 1 stuff is easy now, but I still remember a particular piece that I thought was unbelievably hard at the time, that I can just 'play' now! biggrin.gif

A teacher I know who sight reads really well say that this is a problem too. She can manage a passable performance quite quickly and finds it hard to put in the work on the details to make a polished performance.

I wonder how commmon this is among those with really good sight reading skills?

It depends on if the music is spread out across the page .The way i was taught was play the right hand on its own till you get use to it,then the left hand on its own till you get use to it then put them both together.Nowadays i just play the right hand on its own first then put them both together.Sight reading is also to do with looking ahead a couple of bars from where you are playing.

Trouble is if i try to look ahead I miss out the bit between what I'm playing and what I'm looking at.... blink.gif

I wish I could sight-read exam pieces. My goal with music is that one day, I'd be able to sight-read (not necessarily entirely accurately) anything that someone asks me to.

And then I'll place Fantasie Impromptu in front of you and watch you go blink.gif . Hehe tongue.gif
