I think the main problem with the teachers' diploma is that you really need to have students in order to pass the diploma - but I always feel a bit of a fraud (even if my teaching is good) because I have no official teaching qualification! What d'ya think?

I found that same problem too. The criteria they set about teaching is, you have got to have students to experiment on what you have learnt from the books. But, how can we get some good students if we are not a qualified teacher? This is a chicken and an egg problem. And I dare say that nowadays, where the global economy is suffering a downturn, it is even harder to get students. Also, when some of the lessons are videotyped, there are always chances to see teaching practices that are not "real". What I mean is, when you know that your interaction with students will be seen and judged and marked by examiners, you will plan your lesson beforehand so that all the good teaching practises and innovative teacher methods will be shown off as a classic lesson. I doubt if they can set things in a more realistic ground so that normal teaching sessions can be seen and commented. We all want to learn from the exam, not just to get a pass.
