I'm quite bad as well- I'm in nearly all the music clubs at school and I drive my mum mad practicing!!! I do want to go into an orchestra but my mum won't let me at the moment cos it means she'll have to get up early and drive me there and back every saturday!!!! laugh.gif

I think my friends think I'm weird cos I'm the only one in my class who takes music seriously!!!!

nutters!!

(only joking- I admire your dedication, I just wish you all wouldn't make me feel so bad! sad.gif although saying that, being on study leave does provide plenty of lovely time for practisng. but that's probably more to do with it being more appealing than revision, than the fact that I'm obsessed!)

as for a cure- well do you really need one? My parents just have to put up with the fact that I read almost non-stop (my own obsession) and that is I'm not doing that, I'm writing! And if you enjoy it, why search for a cure? tongue.gif
Fiona
There's absolutley nothing wrong with being obsessed over our music !
Did my hubby just mention divorce ? Now, where's that Einaudi piece gone ! LOL laugh.gif

Just kiddin !

He always says I talk about nothing else but music and that I'm even brainwashing him too !!! laugh.gif

Enjoy it ! I do. And it's keeping you off the streets.

I just hope my 3 boys take a healthy interest in music. At least then I'll know where and what they're up to.

I keep trying.

omg natalie- where do you get that much money?? Im permanently broke because I do so much music i havent time for a job! once on another thread i said all the music stuff i do, and there's so much i cant be bothered typing it all out again! Put it this way- it's 30 hours a week not including personal practice (which is currently 3 hrs horn, 1.5 hours piano a day!)
I dont think it needs cured though- if it makes you happy it must be a good thing! and also, I read somewhere that playing an instrument is the only activity you can do that stretches you physically, mentally and emotionally- so it's obviously great! biggrin.gif

MBC_Tiger
all my money goes on music too.i just spent £200 paying off my flute which i got 5 months ago and i've just got a new yamaha ready for my grade 2 in june and my grade 5 in the autumn.
my friends don't understand, but i now hang with a lot of the music blockies so its ok.wide age range but who cares?!

Oh, don't worry about friends not understanding, I'm certainly not obsessed with music and my lot can't understand why I 'bother' playing the flute. The fact I enjoy it seems to be beyongd some peoples comprehension! dry.gif

the thing is, they've all excepted I'm 'strange' now and so it doesn't come up very often any more. the only slightly sad thing is that I dont have many musical friends of my own age, (guess thats why I've taken to haunting this message board!!

aww! you've got us! what age are you anyway? (sorry, i should probably know that!)
aren't you in any outside school groups? im in so many music things outside school most of my friends are musical and of my own age, though one of the things I love about doing music is that you can meet people older or younger than you and still have lots in common with them! One of my best friends is 2 years younger than me, and my best friend is a year older- i met them through music!
tigger

My best friend always gets fed up with me going to music clubs at lunch times! it's ok though cos i've got another friend who's just as obsessed with music as me!! laugh.gif

Cure, eh?

If I'm not playing music, then I'm probably listening to music, and if I'm not doing that, I'm probably talking about music.

We're all obsessed. smile.gif

Around the time I was leaving college and starting out in my first job (which was tough!!) I found a quote which I cut out and pasted in the front of one of my music notebooks. It went something like this .....

"We act as though luxury is our chief goal in life, when all we really need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about ".

Stick with that obsession, (enthusiasm, call it what you like) !! smile.gif

Maggie
minsmusic
Maggie, that is a GREAT quote!!! i'm going to tell it to my students. biggrin.gif cool.gif

I couldn't live without music. Some of my friends can't really accept it, and they take the mick sometimes sad.gif , but then I've got a big group of friends who play, or have played or sung at some point so they understand biggrin.gif . But I haven't really got that many friends who are as enthusiastic as me, theres 3 the last time I counted.
Yaranak
I once had a group of "Friends" who thought I was COPYING them because I was greatly interested in piano and classical music. :S

Some people are just so weird...
isabelsmells
I didn't really think you could copy in music because everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and everyone likes different types of classical music.

well, we all have our obsesssions in life and as long as we enjoy it, what problem is there? (besides confronting the practical things in life such as financial problems, parentals, time . . .). I think it's best if we let obssessions such as love for music go on undisturbed despite what other people might say. It's your life, right? We all ways of choosing how to live and even if I might end up flat broke in the end sad.gif . . . oh, well, at least I'll be happy.
isabelsmells
I agree. And I think that the people who think its wrong for us to be obsessed with music need to have a look at themselves, because how else would we have some of the pop type music? And all the amazing music in films? Etc.
cecilia
You're so right Isabel- I once wrote an essay about that in school and got 10/10 for it biggrin.gif

hehe. me n elmo spend most of our time in music! and we love it!
trudihiggins
Sweet !!
I think I am slightly obsessed (if that's possible !) I sometimes forget to eat during my lunch break, or burn what I am cooking because I get wrapped up in playing a piece on my clarinet or on the piano - this does annoy people around me though !!
I listen to Radio 3 on the internet all day at work, when at home alone, I listen constantly to classical music (and other styles sometimes !)
My holidays are based around concerts I play in, lessons take up all my spare time - what with playing with a pianist, theory, practical piano and clarinet - life is full of music - but like they say
"if music be the food of love - play on"
