I'm trying to track down an english translation (preferably with a word for word translation) of Dove Sei Amato Bene. I've googled, but am coming up dry - any suggestions?

I've also tried singing it in E major, as written, but am thinking about transposing to C major, which sounds fuller and richer with my voice. Does that sound like an ok transposition?

Jane are you preparing it for some event or exam, or are you primarily learning it for your own satisfaction. Just this may affect whether or not you want to transpose it.

I haven't got a word-for-word translation, I'm afraid. I'll see if anyone I know has one.

I'm preparing it for exam. I was learning it off schubertline, but have just realised, dim as I am, that I also have it in the art of song, which has an english translation, so I've got some sense of it from that now. But I did want the word for word, to ensure the expression is right.

Babelfish translations are absolutely ridiculous!! It reminds me of something my daughter wanted to translate into German. She wanted to say something was her most favourite and it came up with a translation which meant it was her best lover

If you look at the hyperlink I gave you, you will have found it was srittens for seresino who was a castrato. His roles are already in the mezzoish range so I would try to sing it in the key it is written. But of course, if you do not require an orchestral accompaniment you can sing it in whichever key that works. Also try singing it in Eb to compensate for the difference in Baroque pitch compared qqith concert pitch.
