I've also stupidly entered myself and have barely started looking at it - HELP!!! unsure.gif

If I wasn't on holiday, I'd be joining you. I might take the plunge in November, or even do something monumentally stupid and sit Grade 8 theory then (or possibly, for once in my life, do something sensible and not do any more theory exams ever).

Best of luck to those who are taking it.

Good luck to those taking it.
I am only starting my G7 lessons next week...

Good luck to you all. I am signed up for grade 5 on the 17th June and I am over half way through the book ..... and I thought I was cutting it fine!!!

I am sure you will all be fine, I have every confidence in you all

Feel a bit happier now - just spent an hour working my way through figured bass then did a sample question 4 from the Grade 7 Workbook - got 20/25 without even having looked at any of it before today so fingers crossed with a bit more work I'll be okay!

Good luck to everyone else.

PS Don't you wish that there were answers to all the questions in the Theory Books and past papers?

I'm looking through this though I'm not taking the exam. The one that annoys me is the outline one (2 I think) where you have to elaborate what's already given.

Hmm... That one is annoying. I don't think I'll know how much elaboration is needed to gain good marks. I think I run the risk of going over the top!!!

Yes I've got it open right now and am already puzzled by the first example where the tenor line has a tied D from bar 3 to 4 and allegedly stays on the same note. Sounds unnatural to me. Usually a tie over the bar is the 7-6 or 4-3 suspension which I think only comes in at grade 8.

My viola teacher is teaching someone grade eight theory, and he thinks it's ludicrous why anyone would learn.

I had my first lesson yesterday...and so far it doesn't look too tough (yet) smile.gif

As to why anyone would pursue theory beyond the Grade 5 needed to progress to the advance levels,
I would think that it helps with understanding music and playing the pieces. Yes/No?

So if you can continue, why not?
though i must admit, i have a phobia of the composition bits:)

well...where I am, the March theory results aren't out yet...
fingers crossed I did relatively ok for the G6 paper I took!

So let's issue a "Beyond G5 theory challenge" !
let's march on, comrades wink.gif

cheer!
